Two takeaways from this episode:

1. You said David was a First Four member back in 1990, but he said he was on the show 18 years ago, meaning he was a First Four member in 2000 instead.
2. I sincerely thought David had a legitimate chance to win $100,000 after it was revealed that he DIDN’T put the least expensive item in the mailbox (a rarity, I know!) However, Pay the Rent typically only has one winning solution. That means that if you’ve just cleared the $10,000 level and you can rearrange the five already-revealed products in any order and still have $10,000, then chances are overwhelmingly that you don’t have the winning combination and you should stop. That was the situation here.

Just FYI - should the granola bars be $2.99 (as per text) or $2.49 (as per the boxes in the chart)?

Only since, as it's shown now with the $2.49, that would have created a tie amount potential ($5.99 + $3.49 and $6.99 + $2.49)...

It was $2.99 on the show.

There have been some times this year where the 2nd least expensive item in the mailbox could lead to a win. It would still require saving the cheapest item for the 2nd floor.

The real problem besides the mailbox is NO ONE is going to save the cheapest item for the 2nd floor, unless they know the trick of the game.

Meanwhile... really, a dinky kitchen equipment trap in MoL? There are better ways to force losses than this. (like playing 3X and screwing Rent.)

EDIT: our best guess at why this was moved was the volcano eruption in Hawaii in May. so any natural disaster is now a potential issue?

If I was executive producer I would totally retire pay the rent. Not only is it hard but how big it is it probally takes up so much space in the storage it’s is probally the equivalent of like 5 games

Anybody notice anything that would indicate why the episode was moved from June 20?  There was a trip to Taiwan, but Taiwan wasn't affected by the Osaka earthquake.

When the chat was trying about the reason , we thought something happened to Taiwan.
But when the trip to Hawaii was shown , it was determined that the volcano eruption on the island caused the delay for airing this episode.

Tougher than normal Pay the Rent with the olive oil, coffee, and detergent being around the same price and all three could've easily been the second most expensive item. The towels and the granola bars were a toss-up for the least expensive item too. I would've done olive oil - granola bars and coffee - paper towels and detergent - pain reliever.

I was very surprised Jennifer went with 8 for the last number in Lucky $even, but it obviously paid off!

Very mean 3rd prize in More or Less. Don't think many would've thought More.

I can see at least six possible ways to win with today's setup, putting any of the third/fourth/fifth in the mailbox.

7.99 < 2.99 + 5.99 < 3.49 + 6.99 < 11.99
7.99 < 3.49 + 5.99 < 2.99 + 6.99 < 11.99

6.99 < 2.99 + 5.99 < 3.49 + 7.99 < 11.99
6.99 < 3.49 + 5.99 < 2.99 + 7.99 < 11.99

5.99 < 2.99 + 6.99 < 3.49 + 7.99 < 11.99
5.99 < 3.49 + 6.99 < 2.99 + 7.99 < 11.99

That's been about par as of late, right? It's been a while since the last Rent playing so I'm not 100% positive on their generosity.

I was more pleased than surprised. That’s the number I picked in her situation. Exciting win! :-)

I'm sure most of us feel the same way.

They don't want to retire it because it gives them an excuse to offer $100,000 and only give it away 10% of the time (and maybe even less).

Live for the present.  Embrace the future.  Our favorite game show is still producing excellent, high quality, exciting, hour-long* shows every weekday throughout its traditional season window.  It’s as good as it’s been in a long, long time.  If the 1980s were the ‘good ole days’ for the Barker era, so is RIGHT NOW for the Carey era.  Don’t worry about what the future holds.  It will play out in due time.  Enjoy what we have right in front of us in the meantime!
