Sajak & Trebek staying through 2022
« on: October 31, 2018, 06:08:24 PM »
https://deadline.com/2018/10/pat-sajak-vanna-white-alex-trebek-wheel-of-fortune-jeopardy-renew-contracts-1202493329/

Here's a "four more years" everyone can get behind! I can't be sure, but perhaps some of Bob Barker's records will be broken by the end of these contracts. In any case, Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are in good hands until the Beijing Winter Olympics!

Pat has already broken Bob's record for longest consecutive tenure as host of a single show (in the US, at least). Alex will become the second person to do so next year.

If Alex can stick around until 2024, he'll break Bob's record of 50 years of game show hosting--although unlike Bob, it isn't consecutive.

Unless you count Don Francisco's 53 years of Sabado Gigante, you're pretty much spot on.

Why only 2022? If I ran Sony, I'd have added one year to Pat and Vanna's contracts so that they could host together for Season 40, although they probably will anyway. Same would go for Alex, but for two extra years.

Contracts are usually the result of intense negotiations with both sides jockeying for advantage, and eventual compromise.  I think the producers would have preferred to sign everyone up for an additional season because they are currently committed to their affiliates to produce both shows through the end of 2023.

And if Sajak can stick around until 2033, WoF will hit Season 50 (with Pat and Vanna together). It's a long shot, but that will put Sajak at the same age as when Barker retired from TPIR. (Pat will be 87 and Vanna will be 76 while Barker was 85.)

Live for the present.  Embrace the future.  Our favorite game show is still producing excellent, high quality, exciting, hour-long* shows every weekday throughout its traditional season window.  It’s as good as it’s been in a long, long time.  If the 1980s were the ‘good ole days’ for the Barker era, so is RIGHT NOW for the Carey era.  Don’t worry about what the future holds.  It will play out in due time.  Enjoy what we have right in front of us in the meantime!

Actually, Bob was 83 when he retired.

That would make Pat OLDER than Bob, not the same age.

Technically, yes. I was only using a comparison.

Here's my modification:
