Question about cash prizes
« on: November 07, 2018, 08:48:16 PM »
I understand that it can take several months for prize winners to receive any prizes won.

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive cash prizes?

I don't know about nowadays, but the show on which I was a contestant aired on October 19th, 1992, and I'm pretty sure I received my check before mid-November.

...which has me curious now about cash prizes versus "cash in lieu of" amounts. Would they be different?

When I was on the show in 2013, the contestant agreement, IIRC, promised prizes, including cash, within 90 days of airing.

Edit: after looking at the contestant agreement, I believe it was in a separate document I had to sign after winning a prize (which in my case was a $300 consolation prize).

I don't know how things at Price work, but I think the boilerplate "90 days from air" wording for game shows was created so that shows could align their prize payouts with the financial quarters if they choose.  It could make the Accounts Payable process a little easier when you're allowed to cut one big raft of prize checks every three months.
