Supermarket Sweep episode update
« on: November 27, 2018, 09:50:02 PM »
Just an update for the Buzzr episodes, for reference:

Buzzr has just aired, for 11/27/2018, 9:00pm ET time slot, the episode which aired on 11/1/1991. This appears to be from the Season 2 $10,000 Tournament of Champions, Day 2.

I don't know if Buzzr has already cycled through their available episodes, but I just wanted to pass on the info.

Live for the present.  Embrace the future.  Our favorite game show is still producing excellent, high quality, exciting, hour-long* shows every weekday throughout its traditional season window.  It’s as good as it’s been in a long, long time.  If the 1980s were the ‘good ole days’ for the Barker era, so is RIGHT NOW for the Carey era.  Don’t worry about what the future holds.  It will play out in due time.  Enjoy what we have right in front of us in the meantime!

That's been a part of the rotation for a while now. Furthest they've gone is episode 285 (25th show of Season 3).

How do we know that aired on 11/1/91? I know there's an episode guide out there, but it's rife with inaccuracies. The episode numbers don't take into account the ones Buzzr skipped, for one.

Also, Season 3 still had all fee plugs shown at the end. So what blozier2006 meant to say is the farthest Buzzr got to currently is the 25th taped episode of Season 4. Just so remember though, Lifetime liked to scramble up the episode airing sequence in just about all their game shows thev've aired meaning the episode airing sequence nearly never correspond to airing in taping order. Many cable networks have done so and still does, especially if there isn't an online episode guide taping order and during season changes. IIRC, as a child, the first Season 4 Supermarket Sweep episode Lifetime aired already marked the debut of the Manager's Special, and the Double Coupon bonuses were aired later down the road.

The same way is presented with a lot of old cartoon series, and not just syndicated shows, but also those that aired on the networks on Saturday Morning, given their episodic nature (like all game shows without returning champions), despite the practice of "bicycling" not being as prevalent as is was in the '70s. For example, the first episode that CBS aired for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was The Dimension X Story, but according to the Season 4 DVD set, it doesn't show up until about the middle of the season. That's why all those shows for many seasons have that copyright date reflecting its taping even if it wouldn't air until May/June of the following year, since in essence, those episodes by the cable network at the time could have been picked first.

You can even see that in the first season as well, with the old sweatshirts (green for team 3) appearing out of order, as were the episodes with Mr. Yuk in them. But at least BUZZR is finally doing what Lifetime didn't, and it makes sense when you hear those descriptions for new features like the Mini-Sweep or coffee or Manager's Special.
