I think this episode shows the major flaw of the new 3 Strikes hopper; the contestant can kind of see the ball as it is coming out and try to drop it like the contestant did today. Maybe redesign the hopper so it doesn't spin all the way upside-down and this keeps the balls from coming out the slot, which could then be widened just a bit.

Well at least they did one thing right with the strike balls: it’s all red with a black X on it.

What Christina did today was sort of a flashback to Toni from 1992, when she won despite looking at the chips in the bag. That playing led to a temporary re-do of the strike chips, when they became white with the red X's on them.

The good thing is that Drew actually was paying attention throughout the game and made sure she didn't actually get away with cheating.

Christina trying to cheat is part of the reason that they should've kept the white strike balls instead of making them red.  The red ones look better, but it makes it incredibly easy to try to cheat.

So, a contestant tried to cheat on 3 Strikes, huh?

I wonder how Mike Richards and co. plan to fix this potential problem. Redesign the bag? Blindfold the contestant?

Not exactly sure what you are getting at.... It's not the first time someone has tried to cheat the game (or succeeded at it), and it happened when Bob and Roger was there... What are you trying to say?

I didn't catch the show today, but when I looked back at the Discord chat and saw rumblings of cheating, I went back to my recording and sure enough, plain as day, she was cheating.

She deserved that loss. (But she still won the Showcase.) If you're going to cheat, you don't deserve to win. This wasn't an incident like hitting the Flip-Flop button or picking up the shell in Shell Game, both of which you can make some arguments for that they weren't intentional. This was 3 Strikes. Any cheating in 3 Strikes is intentional.

I think that the strikes will go back to white with red Xs. Another major flaw that I see is that Drew is always having trouble seeing the numbers on the balls. I think they need to label them on both "sides," so to speak.

At least Drew was attentive both times. S&P was probably very pleased with how he handled it.
I didn't get called down, but the guy next to me did

Poor Charles with that very tricky second prize in Clock Game after getting the first prize in just 12 seconds. The speakers were more expensive than they looked and had a difficult price to zero-in on.

There wasn't as many times this playing that Drew couldn't tell what number was pulled right away, but now there was attempted cheating trying to drop the strike ball back in the hopper. Good thing Drew noticed what she had and counted it as a strike pull. They put a lot of effort into the changes to the set but so far there's been quite a few issues exposed. Hopefully they'll work out all the bugs soon.

Drew handled the situation exceptionally well.  If Christina had continued to cheat, do you think Mike and the producers should've disqualified her from the show, forcing her to surrender her one-bid prize, ordered a stop-tape, scrapped the taping, and re-taped the episode with the other three contestants and a new contestant?

No, studio time isn’t cheap, and scrapping the segment just makes way more work for everyone involved. They would have pissed away enough time replacing the games and prizes that it wouldn’t be worth it unless the segment were considered absolutely unsalvageable. Drew hosted it well enough that catching a cheater was an entertaining segment that didn’t reflect poorly on the show.

Just say “If you try that again, we will automatically assume you drew a strike and end the game.” Heck, for all we know they did exactly that. There was an edit after the second strike when Drew says “Here, let me mix it up for you a bit” followed by a quick cut to her arm in the bag without showing the hopper being spun. Not unreasonable to suspect she was told something that was edited out.

Question for Scott or Steve: Would there be anything in the game’s bible that would prohibit Drew from saying, “I (or a third party) will pull the numbers, you tell me where they go”?

Drew handled the 3 Strikes Cheater perfectly.  I was actually annoyed when she won $1,000 on the wheel and then the Showcase.

The red strike balls are so much better.  In this game, you have to know immediately if the ball is a number or a strike - especially when you are down to one of each on the final draw.  Can they instruct the contestant to face Drew and quickly pull the ball all the way out of the bag?  The contestant has to draw the balls in my opinion; not Drew or a model.

While we are on the topic, can we please see more 3 Strikes this season?  The new design is great and can't the show do less $13,000 trips to Canada to afford more 'luxury' cars?  I hope The Cheater doesn't translate to seeing the game less in the second half of the season!

Yes-- I think that's how it should be done (that is, if the contestant is of a height that allows a focus on Drew while drawing); if that cannot be done, then have the contestant close his/her eyes while drawing, and only allow the eyes to reopen once the draw is completed.

I probably sound a shade silly, but that's just my assessment of what you're saying.

Yeah, she was clearly trying to cheat. Contestants should be the ones to pull the chips/balls out of the bag (their hand, their power over the pseudorandom machine) but something needs to be done.

The problem seems to stem from the fact that it's difficult to reach into this new bag, so the contestant's hand gets stuck as they're pulling out a ball. Ideally they'd be able to pull it out in one swift motion so they don't have time to look at it and drop it back in there.
