Pyramid: TRAP categories in the Winner's Circle
« on: January 30, 2019, 01:30:18 AM »
Throughout the years of any Pyramid version, the producers love putting TRAP categories in the Winner's Circle that would make the cluegiver say part of the word on the card that results in instant disqualification.  From my perspective, here are a list of categories that I felt were easy traps in the wrong cluegiver's hands:

Things in a BEDROOM
First Aid Things (EMERGENCY)
Things in a BATHTUB
Parts of a CAR WASH
Cold Weather Animals (NORTH POLE)-(Lauri Hendler handled that trap category real good)
SPANISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES
Things at an AIRPORT
Things at a HORSE RACE
Things at a ROLLER DERBY

What other trap categories from any Pyramid version did you feel was too easy for the cluegiver to fall into that trap?

I'd seen this on two separate episodes, and both drew DQ's...

"CLUES THE POLICE FIND"

And in one of those, cost the player a $25,000 win (and given that they'd won the $10,000 in only 35 seconds in the first half, they would've very likely gotten it otherwise), since it was in the $300 box, and they'd cleared the bottom five already. Why, Nipsey, oh why did you have to blurt out "clues"?

Here's one I was witness to, when I attended May 5, 2018's taping:

"Names of Pizza Chains," and the contestant said "Pizza Hut" as the first clue.

I played a game of Pyramid with a friend one time, and I was given the category "Things associated with a morning routine." I could not get it for the life of me.

Names of Pizza Chains is definitely an EASY trap.  Too easy for a DQ

How about TACO CHAINS or CHICKEN CHAINS (I assume KFC is illegal since you know what the "C" stands for?)

And of course, HAMBURGER CHAINS thanks to Burger King.

Things That Are Open. Good. Luck.

Things that are open is a typical middle-row subject (A door, an insurance season, a house)

And of course Taco Bell is a dead giveaway.

Things That Are Open. Good. Luck.
Other possibilities: a book, a business.

Apologies for the double-post, but this could be an evil top-section category:

"Types of balls used in sports games."

Have at it, my friends!

Though never known to have been used on the series, here's a good one:
Cities in INDIANA
Gary, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, Valparaiso, Hammond, South Bend.....though most clue-givers would say Indianapolis on instinct.  I also find it funny that the Beach Boys had a song titled Kokomo, when the city is located in the north-central part of a mostly landlocked state.

The Kokomo mentioned in the song is explicitly placed off the coast of Florida, not the one in Indiana.
