I did not think this would be possible, but like finally getting the rights to air Classic Concentration last fall, Buzzr finally got the rights to air The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour from 1983-84, according to Vulture.  This will be the first time these episodes have been rerun anywhere since their original broadcasts over 35 years ago.

So far, episodes 2 through 5 will air on February 17th, and Buzzr is working to get the show on its lineup later this year.  Practically every episode's master tape needs to be cleaned up and digitized, which is a time-consuming process as described in the article.

Overall, I'm excited for this!  The show itself had its problems, but I enjoyed what I've seen on YouTube over the years.  Also, we'll be able to hear that great theme song again, years after The Price is Right stopped using it.

Still love hearing that theme. It takes you on a great ride. However, I never liked the sets on this version. They always looked way too small for the size of the stage. The show left the airwaves with decent ratings, but NBC was eager to launch the soap Santa Barbara .

all of this can be yours, if you can afford it.

Looking forward to this myself. I saw the show when it originally came on in the 80s, and I always thought that Jon Bauman got a bad rap. He wasn't terrible, he was just unpolished as a host. With proper seasoning and a little time I alway thought that he would have improved.

Our NBC station stopped carrying MG-HS in February of 1984. Just made no traction against General Hospital and Guiding Light.

In our market it aired on an independant UHF station at 12 noon. Our NBC affiliate started airing reruns of The Rockford Files at the 3PM Eastern spot after Fantasy failed.

We had four independents here; WATL was our "channel of love" as they had picked up a number of NBC daytime shows in 1983 discarded by regular affiliate WXIA. They ended the practice after Go! was canceled, so they did not pick up MG-HS after WXIA dropped it. None of the other indies were interested, either.

Curious question.  Is "The Hollywood Squares" owned by MGM Television or CBS Television Distribution?

King World co-produced and distributed the most recent version (1998-2004), so that would make CBS its owner.

Does this mean, in theory, CBS could license Hollywood Squares out to Freemantle, like NBC licensed Concentration to Goodson-Toddman?

I'm guessing thus MGM owns the Davidson version at present given it was distributed by Orion Television, with the Orion catalog currently being in MGM's hands?

I'm not sure who does own that edition, but I don't think it's MGM.  Their website, which has an exhaustive listing of their television library, does not mention Hollywood Squares.

NBC actually licensed Concentration to Jim Victory Television. Goodson-Todman was subcontracted as the production company. If Fremantle wanted to reboot Squares, then yes, they’d have CBS license them to do so.
