Longest Double Showcase Drought
« on: February 10, 2019, 07:34:45 PM »
I've been doing some research, and I've found that it's been 111 shows since we've had a Double Showcase winner (correct me if I'm wrong).  I remember that there was a really long Double Showcase drought that lasted from March 5, 1997 to November 11, 1998, when on November 12, contestant Jayme was the first contestant to win both showcases under the $250 rule.

Was the 1997-1998 drought the longest in Price history, or was there a longer stretch of shows without a DSW?

When it comes to recent droughts , Season 44 had a DSW on 09/22/15. The next one after that one didn't occur under next season on 11/2/16.

I think the prolonged absence of DSWs coupled with the increasing presence of inflation caused the window increase to $250. Wed need an extreme drought (2+ seasons), nowadays, for the producers to consider a window increase to $500.

Season 38 didn't have it's first DSW until March 17th. Not entirely a drought considering the one prior to that was May in the previous season but it may be the latest in a season to have the first DSW.

If we want to get technical, there was a "drought" between September 4th 1972 and April (maybe earlier) 1974. Although, that's because it was impossible to win both showcases.
YES! You have them all right! You win $2,500! You will putt from the closest line!

Jhc2010 putts from the closest line and WINS!!!

Congratulations! Those 2 cars are yours! Now we go to the Showcase Showdown! You will spin first. Pick a number between 1 and 20.

So.... this doesn't count then, right?

I would agree.  Can't count something as a drought if it was not even possible :)

That would be akin to saying the Showcase Showdown had a drought of bonus spins being won from November 1975 until 1979 when they began having them if memory serves.
