Painful Spelling Bee. I would've quit with the $2000 as well.

I kinda hoped Jose bid $1253 to make it a triple one-up. But I suppose he figured the cutlery was less than $1250.

I had a painful overbid on the second showcase. I bid $33,000. Oh well!

I can't remember the last time they had one showcase off by around $10,000 and the other one over, and they showed the overbid first.

Again ,that was Sarah's choice; she took the $2000 and found out that she had one of the two CAR cards. A comeback win in Line 'Em Up and a rarity in the showcase of two players bidding the same amount.

The Spelling Bee #21 card had not been picked by a contestant since April 23, 2015.  It was the card which said "CAR" on today's episode!  #21's drought was the longest on the board.  The longest drought now belongs to the #26 card which has not been picked since May 4, 2016.  Could the producers be hiding a CAR symbol behind the cards which have not been chosen in a while?

I really wish they would’ve updated the Now... or Then sign along with the gameboard. The main prop is really nice now, but the sign doesn’t compliment it anymore. It’s Glitter, man! I mean, where else on television can you find Glitter? I hope they decide to update the Glitter sign.

Even if two cards were revealed to be As and the only chance of winning was the CAR card, that would mean 2 cards out of 30 remaining would win, and the other 28 would lose.  That's a 1/15 chance.  1,000 * 15 (odds against winning) is less than the value of the car at $18,470, so it would never make sense to bail out.  And with 2 cards left, you've got additional chances of pulling a C and an R, on top of the instant win cards.

Barring really cheap cars, or pumped up bailout values in something like Dream Car Week combined with the taxes on winning a dream car and the insurance you'd need for it, I don't see a realistic reason to justify taking a bailout in Bee.

Not many contestants are going to think that deeply about the mathematical chance though, and I think 100% guaranteeing themselves a $2000 win counts as a realistic reason to justify taking a bailout, particularly as we don't know their individual life circumstances and what a guaranteed $2000 might mean to them.

Because someone might want the money more. It happens.

It seems to me that cars are not the end-all and be-all of prizes that they used to be. Many times people will go on a game show and be happy to take the bird in hand (Guaranteed cash) than the two in the Bush (A possible car or A good chance for a car).

Personally, I've just bought a very nice 2015 Kia Sportage with 30,000 miles and I would have easily taken the cash over the chance at the car. I could use the money to go toward car payments, and I am quite happy with the car I have, thankyouverymuch.

There was a contestant not too long ago that took a ballout on Let 'em Roll and a lot of people were screaming at him because he had more chances left. Why?! He liked the car he had and wanted the money more! It might not make for "good television", and the game playing won't count as a "win" in the stats, but the contestant is happy and I'm happy for them.

I thought the Line 'Em Up price was actually easy to figure out. If the "no digits repeat" theory is still in play (which it was here), then that meant that since the 9 was the given fifth digit, then the 7 had to be the third digit. Then that meant the second digit was either 6 or 8, and I just didn't think a Ford Fiesta was only $16k. So I was left with $187_9, with that fourth digit being either 4 or 5. Seemed logical to me.

A bailout in Spelling Bee after exactly one card makes no sense to me. If you want to bailout before any cards are revealed because you don't like your chances or the money means more to you than the car, no problem! But with exactly one card revealed, you lost $1000 and your chances of winning the car haven't gone down much*. It's not like you've revealed two of the same letter, which would drastically reduce your chances. So bailout immediately or wait for two cards to be revealed; if they're both the same, then a bailout makes sense again. But not after one letter was revealed.

* With nothing revealed, the chances of winning the car with 3 cards are 52/145, or about 35.9%. With an A revealed and 2 cards left, the chances of winning the car are 121/406, or about 29.8%.

I'd rather take a guaranteed $2000 than taking a chance and winding up with zip. Even if you factor in the taxes, you're still going to pay more in taxes on the 18K car versus the 2K in cash. Keep in mind that the cash is mine to do with what I wish. If I already have a nice car, why should I have two?
