No surprise having Double Prices as the first game of a new season.  Some will recall it was the first game of last season as well.

I guess people were expecting GRoad or Triple Play, or who knows?  Not when a Tesla is the bonus for a win.

If someone took a big haul in the first game won (a 90000 Mercedes in golden road for example). the Tesla wouldn’t be as big a deal comparatively speaking.  Expect more of the same this week I would think. The show handled the bonus placement appropriately in my opinion.

This show was awful. I get that the gimmicks drive ratings. But we do not need to give away random $42,000 Teslas willy-nilly while still making the regular car games hard (201xx? come on now) on the season premiere. We could just make the actual car games easier and focus on the contestants. Why is that not enough now?

When we're out of money again in May, I'm pointing to this episode. Although the DSW was a very nice bid-shave!

By the way Gridlock was set up, you'd think we'd never left May.

Are the showcase podium prize/price screens different? I don't remember them being that "bright" of a blue, nor do I remember the dollar signs in the background not being in a pattern.

Slight correction: given that the Tesla was at least $42,000, Serlo was the biggest winner, not Cathy. Serlo's winnings were at least $42,000 + $9,630 + $2,690 = $54,320.

Yes, they were. My initial reaction is I don't like them because they reduce the contrast between the background of the display and the display of the price itself. But I want to see them a couple of more times before I make that judgment firm.

I just noticed that the total money graphic on the video they posted on YouTube is the old one, not the new one that they showed today, which is bizarre.

I noticed a difference too.  The displays seem clearer and brighter than last season.

I definitely liked the DSW and Total Won graphics at the end.

As a side note: A $42,000 Tesla as a "bonus" seemed a bit excessive. A car in the $20,000 range would have been plenty of a bonus.  I think the Telsa would have been a better fit as a prize played for with 3 Strikes at some point in the show.

Also I have to note - When introducing Double Prices and James, Drew says that the trip is to Sydney when it was actually to the Gold Coast, which is a completely different city in a different state to Sydney.   Mind you Drew also said it's the same Double Prices prop that was used in 1972. :P

The cbs.com upload of the show has the new total money graphic. They must of use the video they originally shot of the DSW and forgot to update the youtube video in post production.

So if a Tesla was the bonus prize on the Thursday show, what is in store for the rest of the week with the bonus prize?

Very exciting to have a DSW this early in the season, especially after we had none the entire season before! Nice new graphics too. Otherwise not much to write home about in the episode.

After reviewing the episode on YouTube I can tell you there is a change in the showcase displays. First link is a random episode from Season 47, second link is Season 48 premiere.

Also, add me to those who think the new DSW graphics are amazing! It gives the DSW a nice elegant feel, without being too extravagant.

Without biting my head off, can someone explain why we think this was a shuffled episode?  Did we think this before we saw the DSW?  Or only after?

And if it were a shuffled episode, how and when did today’s contestants (not to mention the people in the studio audience) know that their air date had changed?

The photos at CBS Press Express identify today's show as #8824K:

https://www.cbspressexpress.com/cbs-entertainment/shows/the-price-is-right/photos

According to the calendar on the TPiR webpage, 8824 was supposed to air on Thursday:

http://www.priceisright.com/calendar/

I doubt the audience in general was informed about the switch. I would imagine that CBS e-mailed the contestants to let them know about the switch, but I don't know for sure.

I  caught the end of the show after the :dsw: logo was on the screen... reading the ARP, I thought it was made for a potential :wsd: .

Then I find out from y'all that Cathy shaved her original bid back.  :-o

Close call.

Are we sure those photos are reliable as to episode numbers? I only ask because the one before it is labeled as 8525...and unless I am missing something those are also Season 48 photos so......
