Needless to say, that was a terrible playing of Cliff Hangers, with the $44 bid on the first SP.

And could this be the record for most playings of the Switch? cue? First Yvette switches, then she unswitches, and switches again, which leads to a well-deserved win!

I'm gonna say something I rarely say, even with the low-quality lineup in mind: This was a great show. Why? Lots of enjoyable moments. First, Hans zooming up the cliff (although I don't know how noticeable that would be to anyone but us LFaTs, but still worth noting), and then Indecisive Yvonne in Switch? and also Shannon's bid in the fourth IUFB. She had no idea what the price was, she had no idea what to bid, and she even said so, getting a laugh from the audience. Drew had some fun with it too.

So yes, great episode. My only wish is that the lineup was a tad better.

Live for the present.  Embrace the future.  Our favorite game show is still producing excellent, high quality, exciting, hour-long* shows every weekday throughout its traditional season window.  It’s as good as it’s been in a long, long time.  If the 1980s were the ‘good ole days’ for the Barker era, so is RIGHT NOW for the Carey era.  Don’t worry about what the future holds.  It will play out in due time.  Enjoy what we have right in front of us in the meantime!

Definitely a better 2nd half than 1st half today. A very poor playing of Cliffhangers made for a bummer of a way to start the month and the poor playing of Lucky Seven cemented a disappointing 1st half. Finishing the show with back to back wins of car and cash prizes was awesome and that awesome convertible showcase won was the icing on the cake.

The indecisive playing of Switch? was fun in its own way, especially since it ended with a win, but it also got me wondering when a decision is actually locked in.  In the past their have been times when contestants have wanted to change their minds and Drew has not allowed it. I can remember this happening a couple of times in Contestant's row, a couple of times in the showcase round, and at least once during Hole in One. So it's unclear what the rules are about when decisions are locked in.

Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

It’s up to the producer to enforce the rules.

One rule Mike had was “if the number appears on the screen, it can’t be changed.” About a year ago I was at a taping where a woman unknowingly bid $1 under somebody else, realized her mistake, and tried to change it. There was a stop down. Drew said they would give her a chance to bid again, but a few minutes later Mike came out and said that they checked the tape and the number was locked in on the screen before she tried to change, and to enforce the rules fairly she’d have to keep her bid.

When Bob was the EP, he enforced whatever he wanted to enforce. Usually depended on if the show was running long or not.

Dunno what Sue’s standard is, but I’d imagine it’s a lot closer to Mike’s than it is Bob’s. With editing they can be a bit more lenient when circumstances allow, and show the contestant’s decision making process if it’a interesting or cut it down if it isn’t.
Quote from: Bill Todman
"The sign of a good game, is when you don't have to explain it every day. The key is not simplicity, but apparent simplicity. Password looks like any idiot could have made it up, but we have 14 of our people working on that show. There is a great complexity behind the screen. It requires great work to keep it simple."

No new Grand images? The price fonts / colors were entirely different from even the preempted playing.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

Sorry, was going to post this afternoon and forgot.

Thank goodness they finally fixed the title. While the design might not a lot of folks on fire, I'm just happy it doesn't look so sloppy anymore. Oh, but I do not like the new price cards which were the old ones when the game was played last week on the preempted show. Dark gold doesn't look that great there.

Fine show, but jeez. There needs to be a limit to generosity. That was far too many times to allow changes in Switch.

Finally, as stated by everyone else, who set a fire under Hans?

That Switch playing felt Barker-esque.

I also loved how Bridget was playing the crowd on the last GP.

The show was good but the lineup could've been better.

I really, really, really don't like the new price cards in Grand Game.  They looked like somebody forgot to turn the lights on, except they were the only thing that looked like there were no lights on.

Now that I see before and after pictures side by side, I'm glad they changed it. I never knew how sloppy the previous set looked until now. I'm also glad that they fixed the light bulbs outlining the prop. Those were getting pretty nasty. Price cards are fine, but I'd use a brighter color for the numbers.

Wholeheartedly agree.
I was in shock when I saw the remodeled logo on the preempted airing last week, but given a second look it’s a fantastic modern uplift. I loved the old font by proxy- I truly remember as a kid I had no freaking idea what it said and the way that that Bob would host and introduce the game he rarely mentioned Grand Game by name. Of course, it’d just been the norm for almost 40 years at this point so such an immediate unannounced change was kinda jarring. The gold colors and trimmings just does something super elegant for it.
I predict it will be played nearly 30 times this season and there will be some ridiculously tricky setups headed our way. Wild guess.

And if anyone has an idea why we had Jet Pack Hans today I’d be interested.

Time would seem to be the obvious answer - the first act was over ten minutes. I don't know if they knew that it was going to run long with the theme episode and introducing Carson Kressley so they decided to speed Hans up in advance, or whether it happened in the edit after Switch? took way longer than normal as well.

I wonder if perhaps the fact that Maria missed the first prize by such a huge amount as $21 also contributed.

I enjoyed the episode - I think SUV's are now being used to trick contestants.  They build up that it's an SUV but then the car is typically under $23K.  When consumers think of SUV's these days, they are assuming a starting price over $25K which is "normal" if you were out shopping for a new car.

Separate question - is Carson the first openly gay celebrity to make a guest appearance on the show across the 48 seasons?  Just curious.  Thanks.
