They've been sneaking in 5's as the last number of several cars lately. I figured Dice Game was gonna be lost on the last number.

I kinda wish they hang the boom cam over Plinko, just to see what the contestants do, when they drop their chips. For being the most popular game on the show, you'd think a majority of the would know drops from the sides are basically fruitless.
"It's a SuperBall prize package worth $11,245!!

The fact He won so much money is as if He’s getting the prizes tax free since the taxes will deduct only a fraction of the cash winnings

I don’t follow how the fact he won so much money is as if he’s getting the prizes tax free.
The show will automatically withhold the Calif state income tax of 7% of the cash portion of his winnings.   The prize portion he will forfeit unless he submits 7% of it w in 30 days of air date.

7% of cash winnings of 230000 is about 16000.

202000 + 29xxx bonus  is about 230k total.

Now federally, it’ll be his total take x his tax bracket:

Let’s call his 2019 tax bracket conservatively 30%.  Assuming he has no other income in 2019.
262000 x 30percent is approx 72000.

And he better not wait until April 15 to pay the feds.  They’ll expect an estimated tax payment on 1-15-20.

So
Cali gets about 16k ...Feds get about 72k.   That’s 88k tax bill  out of 262k. Or about a third. Yes it’s a fraction.  And not bad at all for dropping a chip that randomly lands in a slot!   I say kudos to him.  Cali happy.  Uncle Sam happy. I guess everyone wins.

Quoting fixed by Steve.

Wow...that's quite an impressive win by Michael. Since someone brought up the taxes, here's what he's going to have to pay:

1. California 7% tax if he doesn't live in CA: 7% of $262,743 = $18,392.01
2. Federal tax. If he makes no other money, then looking at the tax tables, federal tax on $262,743 = $67,153.55. Of course, this doesn't take into account his standard or itemized deduction that he can take, which would decrease his tax, but on the flip side, he's probably making money from whatever his job is, so his federal tax bill would increase from that. So let's assume those cancel each other out.

Thus, his tax bill is about $85,000--$18,000 will come out of the check CBS sends him and the other $67,000 will be due on his federal taxes next year.  That means he gets to keep $145,000+ of cash ($200,000 from Plinko + $30,000 jackpot - $85,000 taxes) and all of his prizes. Dang.

Ha! Sorry.  I did crudely from an iPhone that which you did much more intelligently!   Just sent my money order in to the show for my 7% of 2835 in Fendi stuff.    My sister and niece will divvy it up.   So, I’m pretty much giving them 2835 worth of ladies accessories that I “purchased” for about 65%off.   Lol.

It was an awesome experience and wouldn’t trade it for the world.    Thrilled for today’s big winner!

Wow, finally someone hits the top slot in a bigger than normal prize Plinko. So will they stop doing million dollar Plinko on Big Money Week now?

I thought the cue and graphic after the $200,000 hit seemed pretty corny. If he hit the $200,000 anymore times it would've been overkill to do it each time, a special lighting effect on the slot might've worked better. They could've just waited until the end of the playing to show his total on the graphic.

Congrats to Michael, he was definitely a great contestant to hit the $200,000 slot and become the show's biggest winner.

FINALLY, someone hits the $200,000 center slot!

That car should have been won in One Away.  They almost always end with 5, and with three automatic rolls...ugh.

I still wish one of the major game shows would use some lobbying to end taxes on game show winnings, lottery winnings, and casino winnings, and make a huge deal out of them being the ones that lobbied to do it.  Big Money Week would be a great tie-in for that.

The progressive is a good idea.  Wheel of Fortune needs to implement this for all prizes lost to bankrupt (all cash, all trips, $10,000 wedges, and one car in the jackpot for every two 1/2 car spaces lost to it) - have the jackpot start at $100,000, add all prizes, and have one "Jackpot" wedge on the bonus wheel.  Then if the jackpot ever exceeds $1,000,000, keeping the Million Dollar Wedge bypasses the bonus wheel entirely and your puzzle's for the jackpot.

Or conversely Price could do what Millionaire once did in the ABC era, make Big Money Week tax free. I think that'd be a neat little twist and give it/the show good pub if they did it each year.

Big Money Week is 1 of my favorite TPIR specials. (It's my 2nd favorite behind Dream Car Week. Though I actually like most of them. The only ones I don't like are playing in pairs shows.) So when I saw that this week was Big Money Week, it got my juices flowing. To start such a week with $202000 won was totally awesome baby!. As Drew said, it would be hard to top that!

The rolling jackpot was a really cool surprise. I could actually see an alternate concept in which all the lost prizes were to be put into a jackpot for the showcase winner to win. But I loved the way it was actually done.  Using the value of everything won to create a jackpot of money for showcase winner was a nice touch to it and meant every winner was a contributor to the big moment.

I would have won Dicey today with those rolls. I had a feeling that last number was a 5.

So $202000 on Plinko, the jackpot, and a car showcase win make Michael the biggest TPIR winner ever. What a way to start the week. :)
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Less than 40% is not almost always.

Less than 40% is not almost always.

From seasons 45-47, the last number of the car was...
  • 1: 2 playings (3.45%)
  • 2: 9 playings (15.52%)
  • 3: 8 playings (13.79%)
  • 4: 11 playings (18.97%)
  • 5: 20 playings (34.48%)
  • 6: 8 playings (13.79%)

So in the last three full seasons, there were 28 playings where the last digit was 5 or 6 and 19 playings where the last digit was 1, 2, or 3. Thus, the correct play when you roll a 4 as the last digit and it's not correct is to guess higher, unless of course you know the exact price of the car being offered. (That trend goes back to at least season 40, by the way.)

Are you seriously trying to talk down Scott regarding stats on the show?
Torgo has left the building. John and I never really cared for the way he presented himself.

From seasons 45-47, the last number of the car was...
A bunch of data, part of which is incorrect.

ACK! I couldn't read my own handwriting, so one of those numbers is wrong: 6 has been the last digit 5 times, not 8. Here's the corrected data:

From seasons 45-47, the last number of the car was...
  • 1: 2 playings (3.64%)
  • 2: 9 playings (16.36%)
  • 3: 8 playings (14.55%)
  • 4: 11 playings (20.00%)
  • 5: 20 playings (36.36%)
  • 6: 5 playings (9.09%)

That said, my final conclusion was still correct. In the last three full seasons, there were 25 playings where the last digit was 5 or 6 and 19 playings where the last digit was 1, 2, or 3. Thus, the correct play when you roll a 4 as the last digit and it's not correct is to guess higher, unless of course you know the exact price of the car being offered. (That trend goes back to at least season 40, by the way.)

I remember that.  That's a band-aid fix to a gunshot wound though.  I want to be able to walk into a casino, win a large sum on a slot, and know I'm going to take the whole thing home - and have CBS be the catalyst for that to happen.  I want to see a Powerball winner walk away with every penny of the jackpot rather than about half.  CBS can make that happen with the right lobbying and bribes.

One week of tax-free wins would be okay publicity.  Every single winner at every single game of chance being tax-free, and knowing they have CBS to thank for it?  That would pull in publicity forever.

Are you seriously trying to talk down Scott regarding stats on the show?

To be fair, that's a different statistic. I was merely responding to the assertion that car prices in Dice Game "almost always" end in 5, which is quickly proven false. I did not do any tallying to determine whether there is a statistical advantage to calling higher than 4 on the final number.

(And with the percentages tuning out to be 45.45% versus 34.55%, I'm not going to be upset at the contestant for playing the odds.)
