I don't know if I missed something or not, but in Shell Game, Drew seemed to imply that he had accidentally shown the ball to the player before or during his shell shuffle. I watched it a second time and didn't see any reveal, but Drew definitely was acting like the cat was out of the bag. Anyone else catch this?

Shelly was clearly the highlight of the show today.  I didn't sense anything suspicious but it is worth noting that the shell with the ball was the first shell Rosalind put a shell by. But a perfect playing with the bonus won is always awesome.

Lucky on the other hand was a frustrating loss. Kimberly played pretty right well through most of the game and with $3 to lose guessing 5 isn't a bad strategy. Too bad it didn't work out.

I enjoyed the 3 TV prize package in Sidey and was happy to see it won.

Results aside, a bit odd that Checky was played on back to back days.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Shelly ...

Lucky...

... Sidey ...

... Checky ...

Have they renamed the games on the show?  I'm not familiar with these.  And if they aren't the names of games, why are they being used as such?

So exactly why don't the products in "Check Out" go in ascending order anymore? Personally, I think it's a little bit frustrating.

Something told me "9" was going to be the last # in L7, way before she even said 5. Blecch.

Fantastic Shell Game! Been quite a long time since I've seen a perfect playing.

I liken this to James Holzhauer's strategy on Jeopardy--he jumped around the board, which I always took to be a gambler's tactic for keeping patrons off-balance.

I think it's the same thing here: with the products in seemingly random order, instead of progressing logically, it makes it harder for the contestant to figure out what they think each product is worth. (Or, put another way, it confuses them.)

As much as I hate to see this type of tactic being used, ultimately it's no different than the dreaded $19,119 car in Lucky $even--evil, but perfectly within the game's rules.

They are shortened versions of the games' names used frequently on this forum. Also, you may see initials for certain games, like 1RP=1 Right Price, L7=Lucky Seven, and C-O=Check-Out.

As for the episode in question...

That Shell Game certainly was the highlight of the show, with the perfect win all the way through.

I suspect that the shuffling of the schedule was the result of Check-Out being played on two consecutive days. Certainly something you don't see much of anymore...

The Shell Game win today just enforces my belief that the cash bonus is among the most ridiculous gimmicks the show has.

Did they ever go in ascending order? As far back as I can remember, they always had something expensive like cold medicine last and something obviously cheap like a packet of gravy mix first, but the middle three were almost always slightly mixed up like this. Not quite “random order” but not 1-2-3-4-5 either. Am I misremembering?

The Shell Game win today just enforces my belief that the cash bonus is among the most ridiculous gimmicks the show has.

Agreed: I get they can’t just “get rid of it” and go back to a $500 bonus since it would make them look cheap, but it’s ridiculous, especially when Drew mentions it before all 4 chips are won. Makes the game feel like a loss when it isn’t won.

My proposed solution is get a new set of shells, have Drew reveal the ball, and actually shuffle the shells for 20 seconds, contestant wins $1,000 if they can successfully follow the ball. It’s less extravagant, but it’s now a test of skill instead of blind picking.
Quote from: Bill Todman
"The sign of a good game, is when you don't have to explain it every day. The key is not simplicity, but apparent simplicity. Password looks like any idiot could have made it up, but we have 14 of our people working on that show. There is a great complexity behind the screen. It requires great work to keep it simple."

I'm basing my confusion on Shell Game directly from Drew's statement:

"I don't know why I'm mixing them up, I just showed you where the ball is in the first place, I'm just mixing it up for show."

He said "I don't show you" not "I just showed you", although I can understand how it sounds like that.   He's made similar jokes in the past about mixing up the shells being pointless given the ball is already hidden.

Not against the bonus feature in Shell Game at all. Yes it’s a ridiculously large bonus for such a simple task but it’s only featured in ONE rarely played game, so I feel it’s not a hindrance.

But geez, can we direct Drew to wait until AFTER the prize is won to even announce the bonus feature? A previous post in this threat pointed out how anticlimactic that makes the main prize win. He could make a brief mention before the 4th small prize that there’s something in store if all 4 chips are won, but not go through the whole explanation until the game is officially won.
That’s actually been my biggest gripe with that bonus since it was introduced. Don’t even give away the plot unless it’s actually going to happen.
