"Inconsequential" and "hypothetically" are very much the operative words there. As I'm sure everyone here is aware, the $600 range has been a complete joke for a long time now and the game might as well be called "Press the button when the rangefinder is somewhere near the middle." The producers know this too...so why not have a little fun with the concept?

Indeed I don't get how it changes the rules.  The objective is still to stop the range finder to cover the ARP, not to worry about being just too high or low.

The "ball dropping" theme incorporation into Range Game was totally awesome baby! To have that theme on the New Year's Eve show and have the game won by a New Yorker is the definition of "fitting."

And, no, the change did not affect the gameplay at all. Whether you start from the bottom or top, the objective is still to stop the rangefinder at a point where the ARP falls within it.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Exactly. Sometimes people look for something to complain about, even when it's not there.

No matter how Range Game is played, bottom to top, top to bottom, sideways, underwater, whatever, the contestant will almost always stop the rangefinder in the middle of the board anyway.

I was hoping a contestant will be playing for 2 cars on One Away.  It happened last Valentine's Day.

The two cars in the game was because it was a couple playing, it wouldn't make sense with just one contestant playing (not that it made a ton of sense with two contestants).
