2020 MLB Season
« on: February 17, 2020, 02:19:57 PM »
Spring training is in full swing and exhibition ball is on the horizon. Among topics:

The Atlanta Braves have extended manager Brian Snitker's contract another year and extended GM Alex Anthopolous' contract three years as well as given him the additional title of president of player operations. They play their first exhibition game Saturday against Baltimore.

Rule changes are coming to MLB this year, the most significant is that a pitcher must face a minimum of three batters or go at least a half-inning. An exemption will be made in case of illness or an injury. Also, teams will use a 26-man roster, and that will increase to only 28 when September comes around (down from 40).

MLB commissioner Robert Manfred stated that retaliation against the Houston Astros over the sign-stealing scandal "will not be tolerated." He is coming under fire for not punishing Astros players in the scandal, only GM Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch.

I HATE the 3 batter minimum rule. That rule change SUCKS! :(  Yes, there is an exception if the pitcher completes the inning, but this rule change still SUCKS!

This takes away a key element of baseball, managerial strategy. It's part of the DNA of baseball to strategically use a left handed specialist to face one left handed batter or to use a relief pitcher for one hitter he has had a lot success against. Managers need to be allowed to use strategies, including playing the lefty/lefty game or strategically going to a specific matchup.

There is LITERALLY nothing good about this rule change. :(
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers.

MLB commissioner Robert Manfred stated that he doesn't want other teams to retaliate against the Astros over the sign-stealing scandal because he didn't feel like punishing the players.

FTFY.

Didn't need fixing. As per this article from Forbes.

I don't like the 3 batter minimum either, but I do somewhat see the need for limiting pitching changes in an inning. I would prefer a two pitcher per inning limit which would still leave room for specialists and matching up while installing some kind of limit on pitching changes.

The Dodgers and the Yankees are both 3:1 favorites to win the World Series, as per ESPN's soothsayers. The Dodgers are expected to win 101 games, the Yankees 100.

Due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic, the MLB has delayed the 2020 season by at least two weeks and cancelled Spring Training games.

The season may be on hold but umpires still insist on getting the spotlight.
