Mets pitcher Jacob De Gromm throws for eight of 15 staff strikeouts in a 1-0 win against Atlanta at Citi Field. Yoenis Cespedes accounts for the game's only run with a homer.

Bad news for a great ace. Justin Verlander will miss the entire season with a forearm injury.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/astros-ace-justin-verlander-out-with-forearm-strain-reportedly-expected-to-miss-rest-of-2020-season/amp/

My condolences to Justin Verlander and his family and teammates.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Might wanna reword that......it's not as if he, a family member or anyone on the team died here.

I guess if moneygamelover replaced "family" with fans, it would be okay.  I've seen people saying similar stuff in the past multiple times.  Meanwhile, somewhat coincidental, Kate Upton is trending on Twittter.

Really I agree with pricefan because one could still confuse it with the death of someone in the family.  I understand that Justin Verlander's absense is a big deal, but at the end of the day, apart from the injury, the rehab, and other factors, it's a sport.  He'll be back.

By the way, per Verlander, 1287518009259679745[/tweet]]that isn't necessarily true.  Right now he hasn't been ruled out for the season.  Just a few weeks.  I guess Houston will evaluate him next month, and take it week-by-week

The Miami Marlins home opener against the Baltimore Orioles along with the Philadelphia Phillies' home game against the New York Yankees have been postponed because of an outbreak of COVID-19. With the MLB saying the reason for the postponements is the league is conducting more testing.

Mike Foltynewicz's tenure with Atlanta is virtually over. He imploded last night against Tampa Bay giving up six runs in three innings (an ERA of over 16.00) and made nothing but excuses for it. He has been designated for assignment (code for "See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya").

I think it's time for MLB to cancel the season or postpone it a few months and play in a bubble like the NBA and NHL are doing.

I think the season being cancelled outright may be the only option.  No way it works in November, December, January etc for several reasons (weather, football, the another virus wave)

Though if time gets short towards the end due to postponements, they could always cut the playoffs back to a more normal format, which would eliminate some time needed.

MLB has already said that if they can't get all the games in, they'll use teams' winning percentages in the games they did play to figure out who makes the playoffs.

Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez ll miss the rest of the season as he recovers from a heart issue that he believes is myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart that the team believes is a result of the left-hander's recent bout with the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, looks like it's the end for Yoenis Cespedes.  After some concern following stories that he was M.I.A. it was just him opting out from the Mets in questionable fashion.

Per Jeff Passen, Cespedes' agent informed the team mid-game but not before cleaning out his room and walking out

The Field of Dreams game with The Chicago White Sox hosting the St. Louis Cardinals in Iowa has been postponed from August 13 until 2021 because of the novel coronavirus.

The MLB will keep the White Sox as one of the teams for the game next year with the other team not determined yet.

Braves pitcher Mike Soroka is out for the rest of the season and virtually all of next season after tearing an Achilles tendon in last night's 7-2 loss to the Mets.

It’s not the baseball season until Angel Hernandez makes a donkey of himself.
