Atlanta sweeps the Marlins, progressing to the NLCS to face the Dodgers-Padres winner.

Houston reaches the ALCS yet again by eliminating the Oakland Athletics 3 games to 1. Houston will take on the winner of Tampa vs New York.

And the Marlins no longer hold the distinction of being the only MLB team to never lose a postseason series as they lose a playoff series for the first time in their 27 year history.

The Marlins still hold the distinction of being the only MLB team to never have a player hit for the cycle.

The Astros won't know their opponent until tomorrow night. Game 5 between the Yankees and the Rays tomorrow.

However, we do know it will be the Dodgers and Braves in the NLCS.

And the Braves better be ready for the Dodgers. They're  not the pushovers the Reds and Marlins were.

I think Atlanta will be okay.  They could defeat L.A. or make it interesting.  Despite the fact that Atlanta knocked out teams that wouldn't have been in the postseason in any other year, it was still rather historic what they've done, IMO.  Meanwhile, L.A. has the history of falling short where it counts the most.

Either team can win, but I think it should make for a great series.  Same with NY/Tampa's Game five followed by the winner of that against Houston, love them or hate them

It'll be the Rays. Aroldis Chapman gives up a game-winning home run to a hitter he nearly beaned last month. Talk about a karmic jackpot.

I figured the Yanks would get there, prior the Game 5.  Hats off to Tampa, but sucks for New York.  Such is life.

Not that the Lakers have anything to do with what occurs in Baseball, but based on trends & success over the past quarter century, the Yankees seem to win it all around the time LA does (early 2000s, late 2000s).

Anyway, sucks New York didn't make it, but that meant the Rays are heading back to face the Astros in a rematch.  This time the stakes are much higher.  Houston is tough, but Tampa has been rather resilient over the past year.  Definitely rooting for them, and not because of whatever the Astros did.  I would've pulled for them anyway.  It'll be tough, however, but given the fact that the Rays were one of Houston's "victims" over the past couple of years, there is some momentum going into what should be a great series

This is definitely the year of the sunbelt in sports, with not just the NBA and NHL championship series featuring two from that region, but now the MLB. In addition, the SEC and ACC (mostly sunbelt schools) are the two major NCAA football leagues currently up and running. Remember, prior to 1958, all MLB teams were located in either the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic or the Midwest. And its quite fitting for baseball since all playoff series from the DS round onwards are being played in warm-weather locales. I'm all for the Rays at this point; they're in the same division as my O's yet they've never won it all. It's ironic that the ALCS and not the NLCS is being broadcast on TBS though.

The ALCS is broadcast on TBS in even numbered years, while FOX gets the NLCS. Vice versa for odd numbered years.

Tampa Bay and Los Angeles are favored in their respective game one tilts. The Fried-Buehler matchup in Atlanta-Los Angeles tomorrow is just about an even matchup (Fried 3.27 ERA, Buehler 3.38). Fried has struck out nine in the postseason and walked nobody; Buehler has walked 6 and struck out 16.
