With this episode, Gold Rush has now been played more than the shortest-lived regular TPIR pricing game. Sure, that's Professor Price, but I find that really interesting. Other than that, it was an alright show.

The show started off well with Drew's mini taco spiel during an easy Vend-O-Price. I enjoy little moments like that throughout, adds a sense of humor to the show.

I know it's now 0-3, but Gold Rush feels like it would fit perfectly as a pricing game. All they would have to do is add a display that shows where the correctly picked numbers are in the price, rather than the pure guessing game it is now.

I usually want to give contestants the benefit of the doubt when on stage, but that kettle guess by James was rough. It seemed that his wife in the audience wanted him to say $450, which is an awful guess on its own. Then he heard Drew give him the $100 range and ended up upping it even more. It was just bad all around.

Overall, the setups have been fair throughout the week as you would hope for on a "special" week. Let's hope we get a good finale tomorrow.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I like the rules just as they are for two reasons:

1) There is a cash bailout, so you can quit if you're unsure.

2) Don't want to make the game more of a Any Number/3 Strikes clone than it is.

I do love the saloon " piana" music played in the background during the game.

I'd definitely want to keep the bailout option in any modification of the game considering how seamlessly it fits into the game play. However, I could see the 3 Strikes comparison.

Considering we won't see it for another year or so, we probably don't need any rule changes.

Gold Rush: Yuk. If they're going to play this game on TPiR, they need to have some sort of feedback about where the digits are in the car's price. I know that would make it quite similar to Any # or 3 Strikes, but with the way they did it, it's almost a pure guessing game beyond the first two digits of the car's price, although a really smart contestant may have realized the 5 was probably a trap and won by avoiding it. But I'd rather just not see this game played at all here.

Rat Race: Oy vey. Being off by a penny was heartbreaking on the shampoo, but then the guesses of $70 and $700 had no chance of being within the respective ranges. I was surprised they still ran the race anyway; I guess they needed to fill the time.

There were a couple of nice wins in Vend-O-Price and Flip Flop, and another good job by Tiffany Coyne in presenting SC2. I know she's got a full-time gig on LMaD, but she fits in well on TPiR as well.

Sometime in the past seven years, did they add lights to the windows of the Rat Race buildings that surround the race results monitor and/or behind the small prizes? I remember the lights on the bridge always being there, but I don't remember the windows lighting up. Or is my memory just getting bad?

I guess that Vend-O-Price and Balance Game aren't conflicts (in both, Drew gives the contestant a coin).

I really dislike the lack of price display in Gold Rush. It makes the game feel so impossible to win. (Yes, I know it's a 33% chance of winning assuming the contestant can deduce only the first number. It still feels more difficult when the contestant is flying blind the entire time.) Just don't play Any Number in the same episode and it's fine that the two games are so alike. It's not like TPIR doesn't have any other games that are extremely similar.

I wonder whether they had Cat Gray add the Gold Rush soundtrack after the episode was edited. The music responded to the action and transitioned too well for it to be prerecorded tracks coming from the booth. Or I suppose they could have given the editors some piano samples and had them fold those tracks into the final product. On Let's Make a Deal, is the piano usually so intrusive during the rules explanation?

LMAD played an interesting twist on Cliff Hangers yesterday. The object of the game was to get the mountain climber (Hans) as close to the edge without going over. If the contestant got Hans between steps 16 and 20, he won $3000 cash. If he got Hans between steps 21 and 25, he won a car. If Hans went over the edge or didn't reach step 16, he lost. The number of steps Hans took were decided by envelope picks. The contestant had three rows of envelopes; one gold, one silver, and one bronze on each row, and each envelope held a number to show how many steps Hans was to take.

In the first row, he picked the bronze envelope and Hans moved 5 steps. In the second row, he picked the gold envelope, and Hans moved 5 steps again. Wayne then revealed that the bottom row of envelopes contained 5, 10, and 15 steps, and he offered the player $700 to quit. The player refused and picked the gold envelope and Hans only moved 5 steps. The silver envelope was revealed to be 15 steps and the bronze 10 steps. Wayne did give the player a $100 consolation prize.

That was a fun twist. I wish they would have had the "zones" like they did, but used the TPIR price guessing option instead of the envelopes and used products with easy to guess prices.

Reminds me of the the farthest miss in Cliffhangers, which was also a guess of $700, albeit for a toy guitar!
