Create your ideal lineup for Today's TPIR.
« on: May 28, 2020, 04:33:25 PM »
I think that we could have some fun with this topic.  What would your A+ lineup be?  Is it possible to have a decent lineup when longer games like Pay The Rent or Hot Seat?  Could you do a better one with mistimed games such as 10 Chances or Gridlock.  Today's lineup (I am not going to post this right now) was a very good lineup for today's TPIR.

This is a great topic idea. While wins are great and exciting, all I really want when watching is surprises and suspense.

This definitely would push the timing limits, but I think my ideal lineup would be...

Double Prices
3 Strikes
Bonus Game
Magic #
Safe Crackers (for a car)
It's in the Bag

My thoughts are the removal of the PG1-2 break years ago puts a lot less emphasis on PG1 and a lot more on PG2. So we start unassumingly enough and then bam, luxury car shows up. Win or lose, it brings excitement.

Next, Bonus Game (with the old reveal) and Magic # show up. Despite the rareness of Bonus and the problems with Magic, they are probably 2 of my top 5 games on the show currently.

Then, Safe Crackers for a car serves as both another surprise and a bit of a time necessity. Finally, ending with what I believe to be the most suspenseful game in the current rotation

Let's see:

1. Double Prices (great starter game for timing, 123123123.  I'd do it for a trip.)
2. Coming or Going (I'd do another short game)
3. 10 Chances (for their patience, they play for a $27K+ car)
4. Hi-Lo
5. Money Game
6. Punch-a-Bunch (going back to the theme of suspense.  If the 4th and 5th game run too short, Drew can always drag the reveal on, even if it's just $1,000.)

I will give an example of a lineup from last week:
1) Shopping Spree
2) Double Prices
3) Stack The Deck
4) 2 For The Price Of 1
5) Card Game
6) Plinko

In this lineup from 5/22/2020, would this lineup still work if you substitute Plinko for Hot Seat?  Would it still work if you replace Card Game with Gridlock?

I'll have a shot at this:

1) Side By Side
2) Pay The Rent
3) Gridlock!
4) Bonus Game (for a car)
5) Double Prices
6) Check Game

It's great to have lots of quickies when putting up PTR on the lineup.

1. Vend-o-Price
2. Bargain Game
3. Triple Play
4. Push Over
5. Plinko
6. Money Game

I kind of like it when they play Golden Road or Triple Play in a different slot that first every once in a while.

I know, I know; you are all surprised that I put Push Over in my line-up, and in the fourth slot too! I'm just full of surprises, aren't I?

Password looks like any idiot could have made it up, but we have 14 of our people working on that show. There is a great complexity behind the screen. It requires great work to keep it simple."

This is actually surprisingly difficult to answer. You need to remember that the show needs to treat every episode like someone is watching for the very first time or at an irregular interval, so you need to have the more popular games rear their heads fairly often (which is why we see Plinko, Cliff Hangers, Lucky Seven, etc. at such frequency).

If pressed, I would have something like this (and not necessarily these games, but similar games to match the format).

1.) Lucky Seven (car game to kick things off with a bang)
2.) Race Game (fast-paced timed game to keep the excitement up)
3.) Vend-O-Price (fee game for sure, but something slightly lower in energy/slower in pace to have as a contrast)
4.) 1 Right Price (quickie 4th out of necessity, and I like it slotted here over 6th)
5.) 10 Chances (some sort of car game with other prizes attached fifth)
6.) Plinko (cash 6th, because I always liked the "well we almost ran out of prizes, so we need to offer this" schtick)

Timing notwithstanding, I think that flow works best for an enjoyable show. You can mix and match game particulars as you see fit.
CSS Champion - Season IX (Part II); G-R Recapper - Season 44 (Part I)

And if you win that trip, you travel to the end of the Golden Road, where we have the most expensive prize ever offered on Golden Road.net!!!! IT IS MORE THAN $481,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Wild cheering and applause) LOOK WHAT WE HAVE AT THE END OF THE GOLDEN ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOUR OWN PRIVATE ISLAND OFF THE COAST OF TAHITI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You and your whole family will fly round trip coach from Los Angeles to Tahiti where you'll sign a deed to a 2-mile across, 2-mile wide island 25 miles off the coast of Tahiti. This island includes a beachouse and more! And if you win this island, you'll recieve A NEW CADILLAC XLR CONVERTIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Torgo has left the building. John and I never really cared for the way he presented himself.

1) Double Prices for a trip (I like how this game is getting a lot of love on this thread.  I think part of it has to do with how they shoot it when playing for a trip)

2) More or Less (not going to let the chance to have my favorite PG played pass me by)

3) Bullseye

4) Make Your Move (The 'Think' music cue is an overlooked classic, need to have it played)

5) Money Game moved back to it's original location so it's played right by the car.  When the car is in-frame or right next to the contestant, that adds so much to the presentation.)

6) Hot Seat (With the prize amount, size of the game, and high minimum playtime this has become my favorite game to see close a show)

First Game: Let 'Em Roll (My personal favorite game)
Second Game: Squeeze Play
Third Game: Cliff Hangers

Fourth Game: That's Too Much
Fifth Game: Time is Money
Sixth Game: Double Cross

I have a lot of personal favorite games that I did not include (Punch-A-Bunch, Any Number, and Rat Race, among others), but only because six of my favorite games would not flow well with a regular Price is Right episode).

I appreciate Torgo's thoughts on this topic not only because he lists the games he'd like to see, but he also explains WHY.

Seriously.  This is an awesome analysis of why he chose the games he chose, and in the order he chose them.  It makes sense and would make for a very enjoyable show.

I, on the other hand, have just decided to list 6 games that I enjoy watching.  No thoughts about timing or the flow of the show.  Since I've given no thought to anything beyond that, the order doesn't really matter.

1 - Punch-a-Bunch
2 - Shell Game
3 - Ten Chances
4 - Race Game
5 - Cliff Hangers
6 - Plinko
