  • Expecto Patronum!
*Observes moment of silence for the loss of Golden Road*
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

  • Everyone knows the damn thing's not there!
I think I might pass on voting (or if I change my mind, it may be a moot point).  Totally torn between Any Number, the first ever, and a game that has unfinished business (though not against Grocery Game), and Five Price Tags, which surfaced soon after, but for the most part, can be a more exciting game (and one with very little to no changes in it's set over the past half century).

I think I'll definitely defer.  Two games both apart of Show 5000 (or Show 5132), and both Top 10 in last year's festivities.  In my opinion, a coin-flip

Too bad one of the games is a boring quickie, while the other gives LFaTs an advantage against falseitis, still allows for suspense on winning the car assuming the contestant gets one right, and overall is unique with two different types of pricing as opposed to one.

"If any show, forget sports, Price is Right, [the audience is] the star of the show. Somebody... coming on down and losing their minds, and ... crying, that's the show. The show isn't me, the show isn't necessarily [a] can of soup, how much that is, it's watching people go bananas, and there's going to be some of that missing."

Any Number (-2)

5 • Five Price Tags

Congratulations Five Price Tags, you are the winner of the second annual TPIR Pricing Game Survival Game! Enjoy your gold medal!

Thanks all for playing, this was great fun. I like the turnout we had this year as opposed to last, and I think by decreasing the number of games required to progress to the second stage made it move faster.

Some takeaways:

-Basically Tags was clearly better. 9821 is right, it rewards two types of pricing, SP and car pricing. While I was largely against it last year, I have changed my mind mostly because of the contestants' developing immunity to falsitis.
-I'm greatly satisfied with the top 5 on this list. All games there are great in one way or another.
-One thing that does bug me, however, is Pass the Buck at 77th. Was opposed to it being last, still am.
-Vend-o-Price...really should be in the 50s for being overplayed to death.

I hope to release a comparison of the pricing games' positions now as opposed to last year to see if there are any changes (and there inevitably will be), so stay tuned!

Live for the present.  Embrace the future.  Our favorite game show is still producing excellent, high quality, exciting, hour-long* shows every weekday throughout its traditional season window.  It’s as good as it’s been in a long, long time.  If the 1980s were the ‘good ole days’ for the Barker era, so is RIGHT NOW for the Carey era.  Don’t worry about what the future holds.  It will play out in due time.  Enjoy what we have right in front of us in the meantime!

  • Expecto Patronum!
First, a big thank you to tpir04 for creating this game and allowing us a really fun two months.

Congregations to Five Price Tags for joining Grocery Game in the Pricing Game Hall of Fame. I do agree Five Price Tags was definitely a better winner than Any Number would've been, though I do like Any Number.  I disagree that Any Number is boring. I think Any Number is always exciting when it comes down the last 3 numbers with 1 vacant spot each on the car, prize, and piggy bank. It also has exciting moments due to comebacks and playings in which contestants fill the car price in in order. That said, Tags is a better game. The true false portion is unique in that Tags is the only game that uses it and it's a fantastic test of pricing skill in both parts and is a 2 part with an actual fair 2 part game that isn't luck based.  I agree with Pass the Buck being last as it's way too luck based and is the only game in which perfect pricing can literally lead to nothing, not even SPs. I actually like Vend o Price. I love the giant vending machine and I like how the game makes you think about the most expensive shelf instead of just the most expensive item. I think 32 is pretty fair for Vend o Price.

Other than Plinko surviving 40-45 spots too long, I mostly like the list. Disappointed Golden Road couldn't win, but a top 5 finish is still an outstanding performance.

Offhand, I guess that Time is Money make the biggest jump and Pushover took the biggest spill. I like both games. I think Time is Money is fantastic test of pricing skill and I love its aspect of the better you do the more you win and Pushover is actually a fairly fun quickie with the blocks and such.

Again, thank you, tpir04 for putting the time and effort into creating this thread. It was truly fun to not only play but also to watch.  :)

Awesome game!  Always has been, always will be!

Rather fitting that Five Price Tags won with 5, because why not?!

Felt bad for Any Number.  While I would've done everything to get the win for it (only due to its runner-up spot in 2019), I probably would've taken it out if the chance to do so was made available.  Five Price Tags was too good to lose here (I think it finished in the Top 10, likely 7th place so that is a very good game for this purpose and for the show itself).  I favored the game more than Any Number throughout based on my votes, anyway

Loved seeing Pass The Buck in 2001, but I leave it these days.  I agree about its 77th placement, IMO it really is a combination of overrated and brutal.  Last year it was 60th so I won't lose sleep over its last place spot.  Definitely not the worst game (of all time).

Tpir04, you're the best.  This bring me back to my past when this was an all day every day part of life before I got real busy (in addition to other adventures occupying time).  Thank you

I'll let 04 do all the actual numbers, but keeping track of the first half then giving up, Freeze Frame jumped 21 places from last year's list for no particular reason. I think you're right on Push Over, though although our blitz to kill Grocery right away didn't work dang it.

Also, thanks 04 for doing this again!
