Which door design was better? (Season 31-34 vs Season 35)
« on: August 10, 2020, 04:46:12 PM »
I have a difficult time deciding which design I like better, season 31-34 (2002-2006) or season 35 (2006-2007) because I love them both. The only thing I don't like about the season 35 design is that "The Price Is Right" logo is too small. In fact, had they removed the "35 Years" and returned the "The Price Is Right" logo to its original size, it would have been nice to continue the season 35 design into season 36. I realize they wanted something completely different because of the new host, but the season 36-present designs just aren't as appealing to me.

I vote for the 2002-06 design.

I like the 02-06 design. It's a bit of nostalgia for me as that's around the time I began regularly recording episodes of the show. I feel like I'd have liked the Season 35 design had it stuck around longer than one season.

The '02 - '06 was the first unique door pattern to be used after the traditional door design from 1972. It's much better than S35's since it's really cool to the eyes and much simpler.

Season 31-34 for me also. I wasn't crazy about all the stars around the logo but I like that the logo is big in the center and that each door was unique. The season 35 doors had too many colors going on and the logo was too small.

I commend the show for wanting to try something new in Season 31, but man was that set tacky.  I liked it at the time, but looking back now, the Big Doors looked like a meme. 🥴

Season 35 was ok, but I didn’t like how each door looked virtually the same.  One good aspect with the present day set is the doors are uniquely distinguishable, although the tiled design is past due for a refresh.  Maybe we’ll see something new post-corona.
Pardon my language, but I do believe we all need to calm the f*** down.

I wonder what pattern could work with the modern Barker era door frames. The tiled ones right now just looks outdated, IMO. The design on the clam really gets me to thinking that it might go well with the doors.

I think season 30 (2001-2002) had the worst door design. The 30 Years logo looked like something from a child's birthday party. Surprisingly, the 31st season premiere episode used the 30th season logo (although changing it to 31 Years, of course) before changing to the beautiful starburst pattern for episode 2. I'm not sure why they spent the time, effort, and money to repaint the "0" to "1" (in "31 Years") on the three doors to use on just one episode. They should have started with the starburst doors on the premiere.

Also, does anyone else wonder why seasons 27, 28, and 29 did not have "2x Years on CBS" on the doors like seasons 25 and 26 did? I think that was odd.

I think it was odd that they had 26 years on the doors in the first place.  I actually didn’t have a problem with it but in my opinion it’s traditional to honor landmark years to an extent where you’d see it within a logo (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75, & 100 seasons/years)

Funny thing (to me) is that I joked about it to my family how it would be neat if Price updated their logo from 25 to 26.  Oddly enough, my brother told me that TPIR actually did just that.  I don’t know for sure, Combs, but I guess it was intentional knowing that they’d update the doors from 26 to 5000 shows before doing away with the anniversary number, but maintaining the design for another 3 years and then some.

I could have done without the 30 seasons logo, but I didn’t have a problem with it at the time.  I guess they were going with the routine from 1996-1998 where they have the logo featuring the number of the season they were in until through their landmark episode of 6000 shows.  However, given how it wasn’t a big deal to use “5000 shows” for one episode, I don’t think it took too much effort to use a 31 seasons logo before the 2002-2006 design

I think the season 25-29 door design is my favorite. Just the plain white on the doors prior to season 25 looked nice but the ribbon, balloons, and confetti just added a little bit of pop that looked nice without being too much like the season 30 doors and the starburst doors.

FWIW, the Season 31-34 doors, paired with the pink-purple-blue Turntable, made the set look great.

I agree, they took the classic white doors and made them even better with the added decorations painted on them.

I’ll get destroyed for this, but the Hollywood Mural paired with the 31-34 doors were a nice fit as well.  That’s just my opinion, but the major changes with the turntable and the big doors made things stand out perfectly.  It appropriate during that time.

That being said, I agree with the pink-purple-blue Turntable & the 31-34 doors being an awesome combo.  That also the answer to Combs’ original question between that and Season 35.  The 2006-2007 doors were a nice update, but as mentioned, it was too busy & it reverted back to 2001-2002 where the focus was the season number, with less focus on the show title.

Lastly, it blows my mind that the big doors from Seasons 37 to 48 are just okay overall.  They’re pretty good, not bad at all, but IMO it’s surprising that, given everything the show has done in terms of creativity from the set to the show itself they disregarded the big doors.  Not very impressive.

Sorry to disrespect the big doors used today.  I think they’re very good, generally speaking, but in terms of graphics and design, then comparing it to Seasons 31-34 (really the show from 1996-2007) It could be better

I couldn't stand the Hollywood mural at first but it grew on me. The nighttime mural on the MDSs in season 31 looked really nice.

The color combo of the daytime Hollywood mural seemed odd to me, it could've beem better with the blue carpet. The nighttime shades were really cool and really fits the vibe of yhe primetime shows.
