Happy 48th anniversary to the current The Price Is Right, and here's to many more years to come! And it's hard to believe that back in 1972, people would not have expected it to still be on the air almost 50 years later as they probably expected it to last a few or so years.

Happy 48th birthday to The Price is Right! GOAT game show for sue.
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers.

It is hard to believe it has been 48 years. Cheers to many more years. Who knows how long it will keep going.

Despite whatever over the past 48 years, anything that's lasted that long without a break in-between, or half as long is pretty remarkable.  That's without a ton of major changes all the time.  Hard to imagine the show going away or being done forever

To think that in February 1972 when Mark Goodson pitched it as a syndicated weekly only offering that CBS would step in at the eleventh hour and option it as a daytime daily show as well. CBS has never regretted it. ("Vulgar orgy of crass consumerism" this, Ken Tucker!)

And to think that he didn't even want Bob Barker either over Dennis James, that was CBS's call. How history woulda changed had that not happened.

And on top of that, didn't he have to talk Barker into it? Barker wanted to host The Joker's Wild.

Ah yeah that's right he did, forgot about that. Can you imagine Barker in that format? That woulda changed a lot too I suspect to the landscape. Say TJW bombs with Barker as I suspect it may have just because a straight Q and A didn't suit him IMO, does TTD ever get revived later still on its' own? I doubt it. And then in addition to that, given TJW and TTD were respectively 2 of the first to go 5 days a week in syndication vs. once only, who knows what their absence there woulda meant for others later on. Perhaps that concept doesn't take off the same way either, or at least doesn't then.
