I tuned in today expecting a Season 49 Premiere show, at least with a special design on the big screen and/or some decorations. But, if I recall correctly, there wasn’t even one mention of the occasion (Drew did say something like “we’re back”), and no expensive vehicle(s) offered to start. However, I should have expected Drew’s style of dress after seeing the latest primetime specials. Should I get used to that, after decades of watching Bob and over a decade watching his successor in full suits, with nice ties and more formal shoes? Hmmm….

And I’m already tiring of the apparently coached contestant entrances.

Very nice wins in Five Price Tags and Lucky $even! I think the small prize price reveals in the former would have been less awkward if Rachel and James would have stood on or walked around to the other side of each prize, if that were possible.

I probably would have won little or nothing in Time is Money (one of my favorite games!). I would not have placed the olives on the $0 – $2.99 platform.

Also, what an unfortunate way to start off a new PIR chapter. A double overbid in the Showcase.

I wouldn't say I hope the show (or real life, for that matter) stays this way forever, but for this time we're in...it works surprisingly well. There's even a slight benefit in that, since contestants don't take forever in Contestants Row asking the audience for bids, the show gets a bit more time to breathe. We definitely saw more interaction between Drew and the contestants than usual, which was nice.

Shame about that downer of an ending, though.

Anyone else recognize Tonoccus as one of the anchors of the old "Channel One" teen newscasts they would play for us in high school back in the late 90's/early 2000's? Should I be telling the kids to get the hell off my lawn?

This is what we are dealing with in this pandemic.  Watching today's Season Premiere and the Primetime shows make me miss having the audience cheering encouraging contestants, sometimes steering them wrong, but this is what we are dealing with.  I just pray that we return to some sense of normal soon.

The host maintaining control of the $$$ is very telling of how games that use that type of “interaction” will handled.  This list is not meant to be comprehensive, but think about these scenarios:

The handling of the balls in Three Strikes
The handling of the Drew Dollars in both Vend-o-Price and Balance Game
The handling of the dice in Dice Game
The handling of the dice in Let em Roll for that matter
The handling of the Easy 1-2-3 blocks

And I second the “rehearsed” feeling of the CODs.  Also, the wardrobe of said contestants.  Very much NOT the “come as you are” of the past.

Two car wins to start off the season, but a DOB brought down the end. I was surprised Drew didn't mention the fact that this was a season premier at all; Wayne mentioned it on LMaD, but nary a word here. Maybe it's because they didn't have any souped-up prizes or because they wanted the flexibility to reorder the airing date of the episodes if they saw a need. Some specific thoughts:

Contestant coordinators: please, please, please stop telling the contestants to do a dance move on the way in. If they really want to on their own, fine, but having every single contestant do it is getting old fast.

5PT: Falsitis almost gobbled up another contestant in this game, but a nice escape at the end.

L7: When the third number was a 5, I thought they were making this easy, but then the fourth number was a 9, nixing that thought. Good job by the contestant navigating the traps!

Time is Money: Ouch. At least we don't have to worry much about the contestant slowing down by looking to the audience for advice, but no matter how fast you were, that was a tough setup. I was a bit surprised when Rachel made the items "look nice" after the contestant's first guess, as I would've thought they wouldn't want both the contestant and Rachel touching the same surface.

P. S. an apology, especially if any of the contestants are reading this: I'm writing this from memory, and I don't remember the contestant's names :(.

We saw Easy az 1-2-3 today, and Drew didn't touch the blocks; only the contestant did. We saw Balance Game during the primetime show a couple of weeks ago, and the contestant put all three bags (the three digit bag and the two four digit bags) on the scale. For Let 'em Roll, the contestant never actually touches the dice anyway, so I don't see much change necessary there. For Dice Game, they had a dice based game on LMaD today (Winfall) and Jonathan used a contraption that was basically a very long set of tweezers to "hand" the die back to the contestant; they'll probably do something similar on TPiR (except Drew would use it to put the die in the slot on the board). In short, conceptually speaking, I think Drew handling the money in Lucky $even is going to be the exception, not the rule.

I didn't recognize him specifically, but I certainly do remember Channel One. *shudder*

The handling of the Drew Dollars in both Vend-o-Price and Balance Game

Both Vend-o-Price and Balance Game were play on the most recent At Night shows. The coin was already on the table ( or in Vendo's case inside a container on the side of the game ) for the contestant to grab.

During prime time Plinko, Drew freely picked up each Plinko chip after it landed at the bottom of the board (they just edited around it). Between that and Rachel handling the Time Is Money products, I suspect that Drew will simply pick up the Dice Game dice as they're rolled. Trying to use that grabber arm to maneuver the die into its restrictive cubbyhole while keeping one specific side facing outward is more like a Double Dare physical challenge.

How are they awarding these trips during this?  Are they allowing more time for the contestants to take them?

I think I read somewhere that the deadline for the trips were extended a year, but that might have been wishful thinking, common sense, or for another gameshow.  I think TPIR will allow it, I don't know.  Either that or there will be an alternate prize, I'd imagine

This is the disclaimer they are showing during the credits this season: Contestants have up to one year from the air date of their episode to complete any travel they have won, which deadline may be extended up to one additional year in the event of government restrictions and/or pandemic conditions

I can understand people being irked about the way the contestants are acting when they're called, but I think we need to cut the show a little slack here.  For 48 years, we've seen people celebrating with their friends and family before they run to Contestants' Row.  Now they're running out of a doorway.  There needs to be something there instead of every person just running to their podium.

I love that the contestants are getting the blocks by themselves in Eazy az 1 2 3 again.  I certainly don't love the reason for it, but getting to hear the music go beyond the first verse is something I've missed since Bob retired.

Speaking of Eazy az 1 2 3, did anyone else notice how loud the price reveals were?  I think it actually drove home the fact that there was no audience even more than not seeing the audience did.

I like the addition of a third podium to 1 Right Price.  It's one of those things that almost seems too obvious for anyone to have thought of.

At first, I thought the buzzer was cutting in and out during Time I$ Møney.  Then I realized Rochelle was just hitting the button 57 times in a row. :P

I remember him from the last time he was in the BBS, as a contestant on the final season of the Tom Bergeron version of "Hollywood Squares".
