I just can’t feel much suspense anymore in Bonus Game when the contestant wins fewer than 4 small prizes. The newer display removed much of that feeling, and zooming in on the winning window before the Bonus is revealed takes practically all of the rest.

Stack The Deck is still one of my favorite games, but again I’ll say that it probably should be reserved for much more expensive autos than today’s. And I thought today’s product price setup was difficult; I only got one price right.

Fantastic Gas Money win!! :-)      I would have stopped with $8,000.

If someone is going to miss the second digit on Stack the Deck, at least it was on a playing where they only really knew the first digit, rather than getting all three prices right and have it turn into a glorified version of Pick A Number or Balance Game.

$7000 for a trip to Colorado? Seriously?
(And here's a question for which I should know the answer, but don't; when did Check Game change its winning range to 8-9 thousand?)

It must have been originally booked for Wheel of Fortune since all their trips start at $7K.

The range changed at the beginning of last season.

Shockingly expense trip to Colorado, and way too high a price to use in the game.

What a win in Gas Money!

Excluding games in the "big 4", they played perhaps the two hardest car games today for cars less than $19,000. They really do seem to be trying to control the budget. Some specific thoughts:

* A *very* nice win in Gas Money. Take that, budget!

* I was hoping when they raised the Check Game range that it'd be the end of sub-$1,000 checks being able to win this game. Sadly, that hope didn't last long. On the flip side, when the contestant wrote the check for over $4,000, she had no chance, as they haven't used a prize worth less than $5,000 in this game in many years.

* Stack the Deck: ouch. At least they made the first number easy, I guess.

* Bonus Game: They need to stop zooming in on the window with the bonus before the bonus is revealed. I can't think of any good reason they're directing it this way.

I was looking at your stats and it’s very rare the car price is the middle price (5%).  Not sure what to make of that since I believe contestants tend to pick the middle.

Here's a snip from the blog post in question:

Gas Money
[snip]
The correct price was...(seasons 40-46)
  • On the far left: 17 playings (17%)
  • Second from the left: 22 playings (22%)
  • Dead center: 19 playings (19%)
  • Second from the right: 19 playings (19%)
  • On the far right: 23 playings (23%)
  • The most expensive displayed price: 17 playings (17%)
  • The second most expensive displayed price: 18 playings (18%)
  • The middle price: 5 playings (5%)
  • The second cheapest displayed price: 28 playings (28%)
  • The cheapest displayed price: 31 playings (31%)
  • Unknown: 1 playing (1%)

You're confusing "middle price on the display" with "the price that is the median of the five displayed prices." They don't display the prices in ascending or descending order, so these are often two different things, as they were today. On today's playing, the $16,730 price that was correct was physically in the center but mathematically the second cheapest price, not the median price.

That said, I looked it up, and the median price was wrong in all 11 playings in season 48 and all 10 playings in season 47. Since 5% is 1 in 20, don't be surprised if the median price is correct at some point in the near future.

A couple notes:

This week was enjoyable and doing the recap later has made it easier to enjoy.

Also, has anyone noticed besides myself a tendency to have 3 monogender contestants in SCSD this week? 1 with all men, 1 with all women, so on.

Today's playing of Gas Money featured only the 2nd win ever where the middle ( valued ) car price was the actual car price , the Season 45 Halloween show was the only other win like this.

1 with all women, so on.

Or having 3 shows this week with an all woman contestants row

I really wish we had the ability to edit our posts here. In any event, mea culpa--for some reason, I thought the $16,000 price was right (and before anyone asks, yes, I watched the show.) Sorry about that.

While I understand and respect trying something different, for instance, a camera shot different from what one is used to, I couldn't agree more about Bonus Game's reveal.  No a total disaster, however, but definitely unnecessary.  The show has been pretty good at making changes over things that don't work; maybe someday they'll go back to the traditional reveal.  If not, meh.  Don't like it but I guess I can live with it.

That's odd.  I just edited one of my post over the past week.  I did run into the same issue a couple months back; I think you have a limited time to fix one's post (5-10 minutes if not an hour or 24).

Recap posted.

Didn't think much of it, might have been coincidental.

Appreciate the recaps Adam.  Thank you.  With work, I can't catch and follow the show as aggressive as I have done in the past (when it airs).   I might not get to it before going online, and which point I might find out what happens before seeing it.  That's usually what happens to me with any TV show.  No big deal for me.  I still watch because I like to see how something happened if it's considered "shocking" or unprecedented.

I'm speaking for myself (though I think others might share my thoughts), but It's worth the wait, and in my opinion, it's a win-win.  With other obligations added to the commitment of doing the recaps, this season and in the past several years, I think it's definitely okay to have it posted later in the day

That trip with a smaller related prize seemed like a fee game package, but it ended up in a hard Pa# setup. Pretty weird.

Unfortunately we've seen this too many times in Check, a prize that is <1000 away from the lower end of the range. It's honestly pretty unfair.

This lineup in general felt like many non-cash Friday, rarer, mostly budget games dumped all into one lineup... I can recall many Gas and harder SP/GP car paired together on a Friday... but this lineup archetype is entirely out of place on a season premiere week. But you look at all 30 games as a whole and this really felt like an actual mid-November week, not a season premiere week. Well, whatever floats their boat...

I believe the time you have to edit a post is 10 minutes.
S5x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

If you're a non-mod, it's usually 10 minutes. Mods and admins have unlimited obviously..

Also, SeaBreeze you're welcome, but keep in mind most days the recap will be up around 9 rather than 7. I've had two designer accessories days with DoorDash and stopped early as a result.

You know, perhaps outside of the actual premiere (which is forgivable -- that show was all kinds of weird for all kinds of reasons), I think these have been some of Drew's best shows ever.  The lack of an audience seems to be forcing him to interact with the camera differently, and whatever it is, it's working for him -- I'm tempted to say he's started acting more like Bob.

Mark seemed way too rehearsed -- it felt like he was trying to play a role instead of be a contestant.

I can't believe we've had people with both Switcheroo and Gas Money this week.

Blank Check's prize was way too expensive.  They really need to widen the win range if they want to use stuff that costs that much.

I can't decide whether Stack the Deck was easy or hard today.  The first number was totally obvious, but none of the others were, and I'm really not sure which groceries they were or weren't expecting to be missed.

I think this is the first time Drew has ever said, "the fabulous Showcase."
