LOSS. (So, apparently the show goofed in some fashion and found out that something on Danger Price was incorrect. As a result, it was announced in credits that Elvia would be awarded her prizes. However, as these were done in retrospect, they don't count to the winnings.)

This has been a very frustrating show through 5 games. To make things, the limo is coming. Felicia has been here all show. Now, she either will take a trip to Quinton, New Jersey or have a chance to break the odor of 5 losses.

Spelling Bee: OUCH. Adam deserved so much better. His SP guesses didn't end in 0 or 5, and he even started with the two cards that I recommend in my strategy guide! At least they gave him an "A" card as a souvenir  .

Danger Price: During the closing credits, the following was part of the on-screen text:

Due to an incorrect price being revealed during gameplay of Danger Price, the contestant was awarded all prizes. This did not affect the outcome of the show.

I'd love to hear the details of that.

We all discussed this on discord after the show , we came to a determination that that Danger Price was just for the scooters ( the 3 other prizes were accounted for when it comes to prices ) They forgot to add the amount of the helmets to the total with the scooters.

The Danger Price thing is really confusing. Like, if the outcome of the game wasn't affected then why are the prizes being awarded. Also, the only way a contestant could be disadvantaged in Danger Price would be if the price of the danger prize was wrong. The other prices being wrong actually wouldn't affect the game. Today's contestant picked the danger price 1st and lost straight away. The only possible disadvantage is if the price of the danger prize is wrong. And if the outcome of the game wasn't affected then why award the prizes.

Giving Adam the A card from Spelling Bee reminded me a bit of the voided checks given to contestants who lose Check Game in terms of the "souvenir" aspect of it.

That Spelling Bee hurt.  Knowledgeable enough to get all 3 cards normally and gets screwed with the four As.

I believe they may have meant that the order the contestants spun the wheel in would not have changed, possibly?  That's the only thing I could think of with the verbiage "outcome of the SHOW was not affected."

Regardless, my god that was a total failure to pick something that there's TWO of in Danger Price when the danger price itself ends in 98!

This has been discussed from time to time before, but it is entirely possible for 2 of a thing to not end in an even digit.  We all know the show “rounds off the retail prices to the nearest dollar.”  But suppose an item has a retail price is $999.49.  2 of that item is $1998.98.  Rounded the nearest dollar, the price on the show for these 2 items then is $1999.  It depends on where in the process the show does the rounding.

i declare a technical win in danger price the prices given in danger price were not correct prices and it was unfair to the contestant therefore danger price was WON and the show was not skunked and pepe still hasn't fully invaded the studio since May 15 2019

RE: what was found in the Discord: The fridge was in Most Expensive on 12/9, the fire table was in One Wrong Price on 4/16, and the air hockey table was the fourth IUFB on 4/10. All three had the same price as today's playing. We also found that the scooters went for $699 each according to Wire's website, leading to our conclusion that the show must have forgotten to include the helmets in the price. It wouldn't have changed the spinning order in the Showcase Showdown since she won the most expensive IUFB in hat half and everyone lost.

I know it's not a hard in stone rule, but I had a feeling the $1,398 was a trap because the helmets should have messed with the price and made it not end in 98.

Otherwise, nothing out of the ordinary came out of this show except for the CAAAA.

If 5 card Bee is lost (and there's a 27% chance of it happening, per my simulations), the vast majority of that time it's going to be a bunch of C's and A's. A 4/1 split of those isn't THAT uncommon then. They made way too big a deal out of nothing.

This is all correct IMO, although I could see them being generous in another situation. It just turned out the price of the danger prize WAS the issue (see 9821's post).

Here's what I've done to handle the Danger situation: There is real-time winnings (as show was progressing) and post-show winnings (in retrospect).

I haven't had many post-show winning adjustments in my 7 seasons as recapper. However, the show is still technically a skunk in my book as it wasn't a real-time tech win.

Ah, it makes sense now. Since $1398 was the wrong price for the danger prize since the helmets weren't added, Elvia was disadvantaged and the technical win was necessary.

Interestingly there was a weird incident with Danger Price on 4-17-2013 where 2 prices were revealed after the contestant's 1st pick. Because neither was the danger prize, a technical win was not needed and the contestant ended up winning on the last pick. Had the accidentally revealed price been the danger prize then a tech win would have been needed.

5 Rs: 6/37780 (0.02%)
4 Cs & 1A or 4 As & 1C: 3630/37780 (9.61% each)
4 Cs & 1R or 4 As & 1R: 1980/37780 (5.24% each)
4 Rs & 1C or 4 Rs & 1A: 165/37780 (0.44% each)
3 Cs & 2As or 3 As & 2Cs: 9075/37780 (24.02% each)
3 Cs & 2Rs or 3 As & 2Rs: 2475/37780 (6.55% each)
3 Rs & 2Cs or 3 Rs & 2As: 1100/37780 (2.91% each)

So the probability of losing by getting 4 As & 1C is a bit less than 10%, which is pretty small--most losses occur by getting 3 of 1 card and 2 of a different non-CAR card. Keep in mind that's the probability of losing that way. The probability of each of those cases happening at all is much smaller, because you win the car if you get 5 cards more than 3 out of 4 times. So the overall probability of getting 4 As & 1C is 1980/142506 = 1.39%. Overall, the probability of getting 4 of one card and 1 of a different non-CAR card is 11550/142506, or 8.10%. In other words, it's pretty darn rare--it's slightly less likely than rolling a 3 on a pair of dice.

Interesting technical win in Danger Price. Like others said, I assume it's because they didn't include the cost of the helmets. Still, the -98 ending should've been a clue that it was for a pair of items so avoid the scooters.

Very tough Hi Lo, who would've thought the chips would be more expensive than the cheese.
