Ridiculous that they felt they needed a Rent win this week. God I hate the game so much.

Totally right that was a ridiculous Pay the Rent setup Wayoshi. As long as the dish detergent was placed on top it was almost impossible to lose.

Pay the Rent had 10(!) solutions:

    Gravy Mix (0.99) < Green Beans + Cookies (2.29 + 3.79 = 6.08) < Tape + Cinnamon (4.49 + 6.99 = 11.48) < Cascade (17.99)
    Gravy Mix (0.99) < Green Beans + Tape (2.29 + 4.49 = 6.78) < Cookies + Cinnamon (3.79 + 6.99 = 10.78) < Cascade (17.99)
    Gravy Mix (0.99) < Cookies + Tape (3.79 + 4.49 = 8.28) < Green Beans + Cinnamon (2.29 + 6.99 = 9.28) < Cascade (17.99)

I love a Pay the Rent win regardless of how it’s set up, but it doesn’t mean that they aren’t allowed to complain.

No matter what, the game should never be a total gimme like it was on this episode. Putting the Cascade on the top and cinnamon on the second floor guaranteed a win.

No it doesn't--good entertainment is the contestant earning the $100,000. Having it handed to them on a silver platter makes for boring TV.

Agreed. Winning Pay the Rent, when it's setup like this, is easier than perfectly ordering the grocery products in Hole in One, and there's only a $500 award for that.

    Recap posted.

Let me, state this. Why did Pathfinder's floor get widened? The ex-Add em Up display is about to be 35 years old and looks awful right now. Am I missing something on priorities.

Adam, if you're talking about why the floor was widened on the show, I think it was because of the social distancing.

Adam, if you're talking about why the floor was widened on the show, I think it was because of the social distancing.

Pathfinder's game board provided ample space of 6ft already. There's no reason to have 2 long green edges sticking out.

No one is studying things that closely, computing how many possible solutions there are. No one is going back and thinking about how easy it was, let alone comparing it to previous playings. That’s not the way people watch TV. It makes for a good spectacle.

^Well, LiteBulb thinking it proves that "no one" you say isn't true. But I think you're both in the right here; I think it's one thing to enjoy it for someone getting $100,000, and another thing to analyze that and peel back the layers and critique forced wins.

I wouldn't say it makes for boring TV for the reasons imhomerjay says, but there are blessings and curses to knowing too much about how a game show works.
"If any show, forget sports, Price is Right, [the audience is] the star of the show. Somebody... coming on down and losing their minds, and ... crying, that's the show. The show isn't me, the show isn't necessarily [a] can of soup, how much that is, it's watching people go bananas, and there's going to be some of that missing."

-Drew Carey, interview with Athletic, September 16, 2020

"I honestly thought the doubler was gone, but 9821 going $0 makes sense"

Oh yeah, I forgot about Path.

for Drew to be 6' apart and still level with the contestant no matter where the board goes, they needed that extra space. I think it looks quite nice myself.

Certainly in fairness “no one” is not literally the case. So perhaps “nearly no one outside of obsessive types” would be more accurate. Typical viewers aren’t analyzing that kind of thing.
