It felt like after Goldy was won, which they didn't seem to expect after Rent was a forced win, that they went into lockdown mode in the SCs. Really cheap and plain theming for Xmas Eve. But hey, they pulled off a Xmas week this year and that's cool.
S4x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

They have done this every Christmas Eve in recent years - rather than having the big prizes in the showcases, they put them in the pricing games.

Here's a list of the most expensive showcase, both showcases combined, and any "big" game, played on the last show before Christmas from 2011 to 2019 (except for 2016, where the detailed recap is missing):
    2019 - $40,583 ($69,138); $54K Triple Play
    2018 - $42,663 ($82,637); $52K Triple Play
    2017 - $41,337 ($73,723); $79K 3 Strikes
    2015 - $40,590 ($70,457); Plinko
    2014 - $33,442 ($63,279); Triple Play
    2013 - $26,282 ($47,727)
    2012 - $36,419 ($61,849); $49K 3 Strikes, Plinko
    2011 - $23,084 ($42,696); Pay the Rent

Here's 2016 according to Qwizx: $49,576 ($80,987); no "big" games played. Guess that year was an outlier. It was a kids' special, though.
