Two other country music stars have passed, all of them having No. 1 presence on the Billboard country charts:
* Jan. 1 – Misty Morgan, one half of a husband-and-wife with Jack Blanchard, died of cancer at age 75. Jack and Misty had a No. 1 country and surprise No. 23 pop hit in the spring of 1970 with "The Tennessee Birdwalk."

He was also half of a duo, the O'Kanes, in the late 1980s, their biggest hit coming in the spring of 1987 with the No. 1 hit "Can't Stop My Heart From Lovin' You." He also wrote many songs, including the No. 1 hits "Older Women" by Ronnie McDowell (1981), "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout the Good Ol' Days)" by the Judds (1986) and "Man To Man" by Gary Allan (2003).
