The prince additionally contributed indirectly to popular culture earlier in his career, as it was in his honor that Walt Disney named Sleeping Beauty's hero Prince Philip, as I understand it

While this one is a more "local" entry, anyone who was in the greater Albany NY area over the years may recognize the name.  Even after his retirement as an anchor, he did commercials in the area for several more years.  Note also that, while the website now refers to cbs6albany, this is the station with call letters WRGB, which is also known by many beyond the area as the first television station (dating all the way back to 1928).

Walter Mondale, who served as Jimmy Carter's vice president after a 12 year run in the Senate, and notably lost heavily to Ronald Reagan in 1984, but made history by naming Geraldine Ferraro the first female vice presidential candidate, passes on at 93:

Jim Steinman, who wrote famous songs for Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler, Celine Dion and others, died on April 19, 2021 at the age of 73.  Cause of death not reported.

Gregory Jacobs, best known in the rap group digital Underground as both "Shock G" and "Humpty Hump", was found dead today in a hotel room in Tampa, Florida at the age of 57, according to his father.  No cause of death reported.

Astronaut Michael Collins, one of the three members of the successful Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969. Although he never walked on the moon. He stayed behind and piloted the command module and was often called the forgotten astronaut, passed away today after a cancer battle; he was 90.

Olympia Dukakis, best known for her Oscar-winning supporting turn in Moonstruck and her role as the wealthy widow in Steel Magnolias, passed away today at age 89, cause of death not disclosed but was in ill health for a while.
