Now under discussion is having the Rose Bowl played outside California because of the recent COVID-19 surge there. If this occurs, it will be the first time the Rose Bowl would be played outside Pasadena since 1942 (World War II was the symptom then).

I guess people won't be able to "blame 2020" for that one!  But they will!


We're approaching half a million deaths in the country.  I love the Rose Bowl, but not having it in Pasadena is the total correct call.  If not for the fact that the Rose Bowl Game is one of the two semi-final games (with the Sugar Bowl), the game would've been cancelled outright

In the penultimate College Football Playoff rankings (the final ones before Sunday's official reveal), the Top 4 spot hold.  It is the first time in the six-year history of the CFB Playoff that the qualifying spot remained the same throughout the start of the rankings.  That will change; with Notre Dame's one-year stint as an ACC football team, the possibility of the rankings for the Final 4 remaining the same isn't that.  Clemson is looking to avenge its first loss (outside the postseason) in four years against The Fighting Irish in the ACC Championship Game.  Meanwhile, Alabama & Ohio State have fairly easy matchups against Florida and Northwestern, respectively.  I think Alabama and Notre Dame are the only locks.  Clemson losing and making it in would be unprecedented.


The Top 10 (of 25) are as follows: Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Florida, Georgia, Cincinnati, and Oklahoma


It's pretty much a triple header in terms of the meaningful games on Saturday with the B1G Title Game at noon on FOX, the ACC Title Game midday on ABC, and the SEC Title game on CBS in the nightcap.  College Gameday is in Charlotte for Notre Dame/Clemson

Previously on the College Football Networks: Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama won their respective conferences to pretty much lock up a spot in the College Football Playoff.

As of 01/02/2021, not much as happened (no Heisman Trophy winner yet), but the most significant games have occurred.  Ohio State and Alabama persevered against Clemson and Notre Dame, respectively.  The Buckeyes and Crimson Tide will battle a week from Monday (January 11) to determine the National Champion.  It's a rematch of sorts: OSU denied Bama from becoming the first ever champion of the CFB Playoff on their way to earning those honors themselves.  Since then, and until last night OSU has been irrelevant as it's become the Clemson and Alabama show.  Both programs have been apart of all but one CPB Playoff field.  In fact the year one of them missed outright, someone else has won the title.  (2014: no Clemson = Ohio State won) & (2019: no Alabama = LSU won).

Early line on the National Championship has Alabama giving 8. They're expecting a shootout as the over/under is 75-1/2. We'll see how things fluctuate in the next week.

Looks like it's still around -8 but I've seen a couple of places where Bama was giving 8.5.  O/U went down to 74.5.  The lack of a big change might be due to Ohio State's covid issues as well as Justin Fields' health prior to Monday Night

Forgot to add news on Jim Harbaugh passing on the NFL this year.  He's staying at Michigan thru 2025.  He might return to the NFL as he'd have unfinished business, but he has current business to finish: beating Ohio State

Final line/spread has Alabama -9.5 and an O/U of 75.5


The Crimson Tide goes into the game undefeated in National Championship Games whenever they have a Heisman winner within the same season.  DeVonta Smith might the the difference maker for Bama, and Fields for Ohio State.

I don't think Ohio State will lose by double digits.  On a related note I don't think Alabama will lose, period.  Not sure how healthy Justin he'll be playing as if he isn't hurt
