Lots of big prizes but lots of disappointment for a season premiere. This was probably the least impressive season premiere I’ve seen in years and it’s the big 5-0. WTH?

It's not the spectacle that was the opening to Season 35, but it's no skunk either. If we averaged today's winnings over the week, we'd wind up with over $900,000, so even though we didn't get that money won on the Big Wheel, the DSW, or even Golden Road like many imagined, this show still had its moments, from arguably the first in-ground pool offered perhaps since the Cullen era, some truly fabulous Showcases where the winner wasn't that far off from a DSW, and having one of the original three games played on the season premiere is always a nice nod, and Drew even gave Bob a shout out during the opening. And best of all, it's nice to have some form of an audience back that was missing all of last season. The primetime special looks to be were the real surprises may be happening, along with perhaps other shows this week.

For everyone who played the $1,000,000 Pay The Rent at home, this should have been the solution to win the $1,000,000 prize:

ATTIC - Antacid -- $8.99
2nd FLOOR - Coffee + Cat Food -- $8.34
1st FLOOR - Ice Cream + Soup -- $7.78
MAILBOX - Stuffing -- $3.79

* Pay the Rent had exactly one solution:

Stuffing (3.79) < Soup + Ice Cream (1.79 + 5.99 = 7.78) < Cat Food + Coffee (0.85 + 7.49 = 8.34) < Antacid (8.99)

This is the first time since 1/24/14 that PtR only had one solution, so they really didn't want that million dollars won. But the $100k Robert won isn't exactly chump change.

* Good for Bryce for avoiding the 50 trap in Money Game! I wonder how many people are going to waste a pick choosing 50 this season. Great day for him overall!

* I was surprised they didn't play one of the new games on the opener.

* Overall, this felt like a good show for the middle of season opening week, but not a great season-opener show.

- Shame we didn't see Back to '72 Today, $1M Pay the Rent guaranteed the other wasn't gonna show up
- Was not expecting Showcase 1 to be as expensive as it was
- Had Bryce just added 200 to his showcase bid we could have had a DSW on the season premiere
- I guess we are gonna just waste the budget this week given it's only premiere week given how expensive the Bonus Game big prize was
CSS Stats:

Season 19 Regular Season-11th in Points, 29th in Cash
Season 19 Playoffs-13th in Points, Failed to Cash

I did notice one thing that wasn't there: the "you now have two years to take your trip if it is delayed by COVID-19" clause is no longer in the credits.

Or perhaps they only wanted the big prize won if the contestant playing the game was someone who knows the show well?  Someone who has watched enough times might be the person who would know enough that, with the big prize being offered putting the small item first isn't likely to be correct.

Also glad to see that he didn't go for that (particularly on the last try), though it did seem that if they were going to stick it in as the right answer (which has happened rarely over the years), this would be the time to do it (as a season premiere, making it an easier win for many who think that is correct, even though it usually isn't).

Welcome back everyone. Gotta say that this felt more like traditional Price Is Right. Great to have an audience back! The lighted 50-year logo on the big doors looks very nice.

What a bonus prize in Bonus Game, and apparently they wanted it won.  As usual, I would have been a lot more excited if the old incandescent light board was still being used.

I’m pretty sure Bryce is not a LFAT, but regardless, nice win in Money Game.

Speaking of the logo, did anyone happen to spot how the opening logo contained a montage of images from the show's past in the number 50? It was subtle so woulda been easy to miss if you weren't paying close enough attention. I thought that was really cool, and marks the golden anniversary of the show very nicely. I wonder if it'll change ala Jeopardy last season day to day, probably not though.

In terms of the show itself....it felt kinda underwhelming to a degree for a premiere. There were elements that really still made me miss Bob and his presence (the perfect bid in which one of the 4 contestants had bid $1 for example), perhaps extra illuminated by Pluto's reruns now and being able to see the comparison between Bob and Drew a bit more than in the past, and for a 50th anniversary, they didn't seem to play it up as much as I woulda expected, though then again they have the primetime special coming up too, so that could be part of why.

Good to see a somewhat normal show again though after last year, even with the distancing still between Drew and the contestants on stage, something I'll honestly never be able to get used to. Will take it over what we had before.

I know this game hasn't been included in every season premiere, but for me, a really good TPiR season premiere is one that kicks off with Golden Road and a fabulously expensive luxury or sports car.

Maybe later this week.

Just my opinion.

My guess is the Primetime special features it.

For what it's worth, this was intended to be the second aired episode of the season (9512K).

Maybe the intended first episode wasn't worthy enough to be aired as the opener, or it is being held out until the end of the week.
