Inconsistent. I think that’s a good word to apply to today’s show. There are numerous music cues genuinely from the 70s for all sorts of prizes that could have been used for the entire episode, and it was great to hear those we did, but instead we got a mix of those and more recent ones. And would it have been too much to ask for cues that traditionally fit the type of prize (showcase, small item, grocery, etc.) and to have them played at traditional times? I guess so.

And I didn’t like the parody/MadTV/SNL feel of the show. In the 70s history of Price, the host, the announcer, and the contestants didn’t use catchphrases, moves, and then-current slang just to use them.

But wasn’t it great to hear Bonus Game called "Lower or Higher" and to see the clip of the contestant, Bob, and the original board (without “Bonus Game”)? And she won her showcase!

Whew!  What a show!  Back to 72 for 50 Grand, Classic Cues left & right, Peter Brady, the cast dressing up, and 3 automobiles offered!  What a way to send us into the weekend!

It sucks that no cars were won in the pricing games that offered them.  I feared that someone would choose the season number; yet I expected a ton of people to do so this year, and we’re only in October.  It has happened several times this year alone.  I missed the first one, and the second one was part of a win.  Like before, it was the player’s last choice.  Meh; I didn’t think Money Game was easy today.

Any Number and Grocery Game were disappointing.  However, I loved seeing $50,000 won in Back to 72, complete with classic cues.  I agree with GameShowKid in terms of the inconsistent theme.  The cues were sorta out of place, but I'll take it.  Better to hear them from time to time than to not have them show up at all.

Finally, major redemption for eventual showcase winner Carol.  After things may not have gone well playing Bonus Game, she wins Most Expensive and the showcase which gives us a contestant walking out with a car to end the show.

Felt more like a 70s celebration more than a Halloween show, but I’ll take it.  That set though; nice!  I wouldn’t mind it if they went back to carpeting the turntable spot.  Christopher Knight cameo in the showcase was perfect.  It can’t be said enough: when it comes to celebrations and whatever else, TPIR gets it!

I think I definitely forgot about the retro doors completely, probably because there was so much in today's special that it was a minor part of a show that was trending upward (except for some of the results).  I was wondering at the beginning why George was behind his Drew intro, and then boom!  There's the 1972 doors.  That was so nice

I enjoyed the show. I particularly liked the 70's style IUFB displays and the showcase podiums. Nice win on Back to '72 as well.

I liked the show for the most part, really liked the old cues returning, the eggcrate-like displays on contestants row makes a return from decades week, loved old Double Prices and even a remake of the old SC Podiums, would have liked to hear classic Bean Stalker and not the Remix version same I believe could go with Big Banana.

If I was putting together a collection of great episodes for a Blu Ray release, this would absolutely be one of those episodes. Tremendous from start to finish in just about every way.

I loved this special. So many callbacks to the 1970s. Some of the ones that I really liked were:

* Drew having a corded mic (even if he did also have a wireless mic).
* All games coming from 1972 except for Bt72.
* The trip skin for Palm Springs in IUFB #4.
* Drew saying "The password is old" during Grocery Game--he did that so well I had to make sure I wasn't watching Buzzr.
* The asterisk in contestant's row to indicate which contestant won the one bid.
* Finding a contestant from the 1970s to be on the show again!

It's too bad there weren't more winnings (especially the cars), but still, well done, TPiR staff!

Even cooler was that the contestant played a 1972 game: Bonus Game when it was still called "Higher or Lower"...or "Lower or Higher", according to the contestant. Probably would have been played today if they didn't need to promote Back to '72.

Agreed with others about it being inconsistent. There were some really nice touches, like the classic door at the top, the lovely turntable and colors, and the podiums and DP looked good. Not a big fan of how the eggcrates looked on the displays, especially in the showcases, but that's a noble attempt at the aesthetic. Cues were all over the place and very mixed on my feelings on them, from the accuracy to the spotty use of them. The clip of the retro contestant was nice. Overall, I think the element were more great than bad and made for a fair Halloween show, even if I wanted a little more from it.

I've also been looking up the SPs from back in the day to see if they actually were on the show back in '72. It helps that it's a well chronicled year and we know what the prices were back in the day. Here's what I found (with photos if I could find the shows):

I was going to say that the only thing missing was Bonus Game, as I remember that being one of the "originals," but I have a feeling Standards & Practices would have had a problem with either (a) the possibility of the contestant having played it in 1972 playing it again, or (b) the show rigging the contestant order so she couldn't be one of the first four, which would have allowed them to play Bonus Game first without the possibility of her playing it.

I know I'm being pedantic, but my main two problems were, (a) they could have done a better job with the fonts used for the IUFB and Showcase bids, and (b) the showcase podiums didn't say "showcase" back then - weren't they left blank until they came back from commercial?

And somebody refresh my memory - how many shows into the run was Clock Game first played?

I do enjoy the 70s specials like this, but they often come out looking like a parody/caricature. Showcase podiums and carpet much appreciated. Would have liked to see Money at center stage.

Don't know why they can never seem to get a round eggcrate font, I think they've tried to emulate it three times now, and every time it's been the square "lights."

I think the cue inconsistency has a lot to do with Stan being gone. The current staff knows how to use the modern cues, but the older stuff they have no clue. Like Big Banana vamp for SP descriptions, the 1983 truck/van cue in a Showcase, and even Bean Stalker in a Showcase recently. Correct me if any of these uses are in fact correct.
