There's nothing logical about using the prefix for "ten thousand" to represent two thousand.

The only logic is M in Roman numerals is 1000.  Since they used "K" for 1000 before, why not use a second 1000 identifier for the second batch of thousands?

Also, that's not what "M" represents, anyway -- "mega" means "million," which makes it even more nonsensical.

Good Lord, that's embarrassing. Thanks Steve. I won't tell you what I do for a living. I'm going to chalk that one up to "my 2 year old is in the hospital again and I haven't slept enough." Because that's the truth and it's all I've got.

To be fair, I'm the one who brought "ten thousand" into the discussion--not sure why I thought 1,999+1 = 10,000 . It's not like I double majored in math and engineering or anything....

Except that if the numbering is reaching 9995, then the next one is 10001 so there is a 10,000 (even if it is really split as 1000 1) in there
