Well, since we already have threads for the NFL and college hoops, I decided to see if there's any interest in discussing auto racing here as well. Feel free to offer any tidbits or opinions from any racing series you're a fan of!
Big changes are afoot in Formula 1 as teams unveil their new cars for 2022 to meet a brand-new rules package. The new package is designed to increase parity between the teams, as well as reduce "dirty air" to create more opportunities for overtaking.
Williams,
AlphaTauri and
McLaren are among the teams who have already revealed their new cars.
NASCAR has also introduced a new "next-generation" Cup series car for 2022. For the first time ever in the series, all cars will share the same chassis design, with the manufacturers (Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota) only supplying mechanical components. As in F1, the goal is to reduce the advantage the big-money teams have over smaller ones. The new car made its debut a little over a week ago at the Busch Clash, which for the first time was held at a specially-constructed 1/4-mile track in the LA Coliseum--the shortest track the Cup series had raced on in years. It remains to be seen how the new cars will perform at the Daytona 500 this Sunday.
Finally, if you've never seen a dirt-track sprint car race before, I
highly recommend checking one out--either on one of the many streaming services out there or in-person at a local short track near you. Check out
this absolute thriller of a race from last Friday night at the World Of Outlaws season opener.
