80's Aussie Price Questions
« on: May 29, 2007, 01:31:51 PM »
1. Was the same set used for both the '81-'86 & 1989 versions?

2. Was there a bonus for a perfect bid?

3. Were cars offered in any of the games, or were they saved for the Showcase?

4. When the wheel was used, was there a bonus for a score of 100?

5. What was the highest total, as far as Showcases & Showcase winners (or champions, during that format)?

6. Without asking for info on every single one, were that any changes to the games, as far as rules and such?

Thanks!

in order

1) no, completely different set, the early 80's orange, the later one was red from memory

2) yes, $100 which its been ever since

3) cars were often played for during games

4) wheel was used to determine the showcase playoff in both versions from memory

5) not real sure, wouldn't have been more than 20K or 30K

6) not as far as i know

have a look for the clip of it on youtube (the early 80's one) there is also a vid of the opening (along with PYL when it ran here in 1987)

Except for on two occasions - on Larry Emdur's 1000th show, it was worth $1000 (although nobody won it), and on the 100th episode of the latest incarnation it was also $500.

Edited because I can't count to two.

I'm gonna ask my own 80's Price question now: What games were played on Turps's version? I'm assuming they're different than those on Larry's version because many weren't arount until the late 80's/early 90's (2 For 1, Side By Side, Cover Up, etc.)...

to be honest, my memory is quite hazy of the games played, so i'll give it a crack

any number
bonus game
bullseye
dice game
trader bob (was called something else though)
ten chances
switcharoo
temptation
grocery game
cliffhanger
lucky seven (believe it was called that, in larrys version it was of course one dollar deal)
race game
hole in one
its optional
on the spot
i'm sure there were others, but i cant think of them. hope this helps

I think you mean On the Nose...On the Spot wasn't created until 2003.
