If you’re not a regular viewer of the PGA, you are definitely going to be bored with the product. That being said, your made point is accurate. The content can be better.
This was a big golf event, so the TV time is much longer than the standard 3 hours or 3.5 hours you’d get from most everything else.
The announcers going off-topic happens with every sport. You probably don’t get it a ton in Tennis, but you’ll have that happen in football, basketball, and definitely baseball. In this case, there was a connection with the eventual winner and the American football player in discussion. Scottie Scheffler & Matthew Stafford went to the same school, and the latter had won his first Super Bowl the same day Scheffler won his first event. The connection reaches LA baseball star Clayton Kershaw. The link was Texas, Los Angeles, CA, and winning.
The winner was broadcast a ton; the blond player you referred to was paired with him so there was enough focus with Scottie. Typically, though, they will have to focus on other final pairings that were in contention (Rory, IM, Schwartzel,, etc). Finally, they obviously had to focus on Tiger, another great player in Dustin Johnson, and the previous champion Hideki (who succeeded DJ).
In brief, golf on TV has its pros and cons. You have to watch regularly to get the game. That, and pick your spots. I have no plans on watching this coming weekend; I usually catch more golf in the summer, but when it comes to big events or events with star studded names, I’m likely going to respect it more often than not.
Finally, it is quiet in here for sure. There aren't that many golf fans on the boards here. During the MLB postseason, if you're into baseball, you've have more interaction there, and if you're around during the football season, they'll be more traffic for sure
