Nice win in Line Em Up!  It was a fairly kind setup, and it helped Niwa to completely blank on her first shot.

It may (or may not) seem clique for Drew to pimp the showcases (“We’ve got some great showcases coming up”), but man were those both nice.  The Earth Day one was rather spectacular, but that might be yours truly pimping Earth Day as a fan of what it’s all about (not just 4.22 but in general).

Daniel fell short, but happy for Anna (as her day was a great one)!

While it's great they are consistently giving easier prices in 3X, they are screwing up about everything else with the game.

-It hasn't been the first or second game in 3 seasons. It also rarely is with a cash game anymore. Why? This leads to overly predictable lineup structuring when it's played.
-Every single time they say "It's a new car!" for this game, they dun screwed up bad, and don't seem to realize it. If this is more of a regular car game, play it more than once every 3 months!!
-It was odd on Earth Day this was a non-fitting Alfa Romeo of all things.
S4x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

Sorry for the doublepost but Guint had a good discussion in chat about how 3X may be pigeonholed out of the first two (like Stack, Hole, MoL, etc.). It's been about 10 playings now, all on the refurbished set so this seems likelier than I thought, and a bit sad to be the case.

Quote
Today, 12:47:12 dftackett: I think it can't be 1/2 anymore, after they changed the set
Today, 12:47:30 dftackett: They haven't done it since Day 1 of refurb
Today, 12:49:54 Wayoshi: yeah, that has to be considered
Today, 12:50:13 Wayoshi: but it's hard to see WHY when it seems the same shape to me
Today, 12:50:42 dftackett: The problem isn't the shape, but the extra paraphernalia on top
Today, 12:51:04 dftackett: It's too tall for the doors so they have to lift it up
Today, 12:51:41 Wayoshi: 🤔
Today, 12:51:49 dftackett: And I think they decided they just couldn't get all that done in time during the first segment
Today, 12:52:00 Wayoshi: none of that excuses barely any cash with it in these lineups, still.
Today, 12:52:57 dftackett: The big 3 in general seem to not be too keen on having cash with them
Today, 12:53:29 Wayoshi: I mean obviously some cash won't work, but it shouldn't be almost never
S4x... the show's stabilized into something decent now, I guess...

I saw 3 Strikes being played in person with the new set back in December 2018. The top part of the set folds down so the game can fit through the big doors. They have to bring out a ladder so a stagehand can fold it up and down. When I went there it was still played behind the blue-curtain-on-wheels, and it was perfectly obvious what game would be next because the top part is visible over the curtains. I think they bring down the RGC for it now. Setting up the game and taking it down took longer than the other games that were played while I was there because of this (games like Plinko, Balance Game, Gridlock!, and the GPT games were simply wheeled back behind the big doors with little to no breakdown).

So, that's most likely why it's never played first or second... but when Lucky Seven was played first (on the same episode 3 Strikes was played last; L7's perfect playing, btw), they stopped tape for a couple of minutes to push the truck back behind the turntable. After the truck was back in place, they started it right up by calling down the next contestant (Bargain Game was ready to go.) They pushed the truck out from behind the turntable and through door #2 during the break between games 2 and 3.

You get to see a lot of neat behind-the-scenes stuff when you get to go to the tapings.

I'm curious as to what the opening setup entails during these pandemic episodes. Because I caught the first act of yesterday's episode and noticed that the first One Bid was behind the dollar sign, which I don't remember ever attempting while I was at the show -- there was only about a 20-second span between Drew's entrance and the reveal of the prize. Theoretically possible, but cutting it way too close.

I just watched that opening again. When Drew welcomes us to the show, there's a pan of the first four contestants, and you can see that they aren't wearing microphones. Then the first One Bid is revealed, and on the reaction shot, everybody is mic'ed up. Which confirms my suspicions that they stopped at "Let's kick this hour off with the first prize up for bids today on The Price Is Right" and moved the prize into place while giving the contestants their wireless mics.

If they're stopping anyway, then why not use that time to set up Three Strikes? I don't know how long it normally takes to set up the new board, or how long it takes to mic four contestants, but they've played Dice Game, Plinko, It's in the Bag, Punch a Bunch, and Let 'Em Roll (among others) first this season. It seems doable. With that kind of freedom, I would've loved to play games that could never go in the first slot without a tape stop, like Race Game or More or Less.

I’m sorry, but George (or whoever writes George’s script) has got to do a better job introducing luxury cars. My brain didn’t even register that the car was an Alfa Romeo until I realized, “Hey. That’s a nice looking car.”

✅ Car below $60k
✅ Weak prize copy for 3 Strikes
✅ First guess dragged out longer than needed
✅ Zero correct guesses
All we needed was a set malfunction, and this playing would've been perfect. :P

...

On the flip side, Line 'Em Up went basically as I hoped it would with two chances. Zero on the first, and a win on the second.

I agree about George introducing the car in Three Strikes. He or the script writers definitely needed to give it more pizzazz.
