Arcade Game Machines as prizes.
« on: May 09, 2022, 08:22:24 PM »
I'm just wondering if TPIR  had Arcade Games as prizes in the 80's and early 90's when Arcade Games were really popular?

Yes, plenty. Michael Jackson's Moonwalker was one that I always remember them having.

They were very common in the 1982-1985 episodes being shown on Pluto. There was one called “Round Up” that popped up in showcases practically once a week.

I definitely remember seeing a Paperboy arcade game offered in a Showcase on Tom Kennedy's TNPIR sometime later in 1985.

I also remember seeing a video arcade game called Neck-n-Neck (involving horse racing) offered on Barker's TPIR at one point. Not sure when, though.

I've seen the Komani Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game on a 1990 episode. Definitely much cooler than the lame, easier NES version as a kid. They seemed really cool as prizes back then considering how inferior the technology was on home consoles.

You also had a lot more pinball machines offered as prizes back then compared to today. Remember those '70s episodes with the analog scoring displays?

Don't know if I'd call the NES version lame. It added two extra levels to make up for the downgrade from Arcade to NES.
