Price is right 50 movies 50 years
« on: June 30, 2022, 08:03:39 PM »
on a rerun today they were talking about on the showcase giving 50 movies 50 years. One for each year. I was just curious curious which ones they chose. (I know it's ghostbusters was one but you know how they are set up). I was trying to check on the recap but having some problem finding the episode. I will put this in the price was right section but there was no area for season 50 yet. assistance would be appreciate.

Here's a YouTube recording of the showcases that day, timestamped to the 50 movies display:

thank you, I know I wrote this multiple weeks after the fact. I just been very busy. wanted to be sure. My former teacher had a 'classic movie' list and i wanted to see how it would compare. thank again. i see Close encounters of the 3 kind (I have a ya moment with that one ). et and jaws ghostbusters, and some other recognizable titles. but if anyone who has shopped for these titles could tell me the back ones that are covered by other dvd cases but still possible recognize if seen before. I know this might be a lot trouble which is why I was hesitant but i would appreciate it.

Interesting that they had Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) to represent the far end of "spanning fifty years" from when the episode was taped, yet the most recent movies on that list were 2018's A Quiet Place and Bohemian Rhapsody.

thank you, i surprised Jurassic World made it over the original (maybe they thought they had too many 80s and 90s movies), sorry this was an inconvenience enough to warrant a sigh, but I am very happy with the confirmation list. I have seen a few of these. I am kind of surprised on the lack of big 70s movies (when I drafted this last night i was thinking that casino royale would be the only possible 70s movie, if it was original one and not the one from 2006, (but I think I would recognize the first one due to how colourful and iconic the cover was) as I assume the The Chocolate Factory movie was the one from the 2000s, I did not even know they made one in the 70s) (which in the way proves how niche the movie currently is), The twilight joke was funny. also thank for confirming it was not 1 movie a from each release year since 1972. I agree on MSTieScott comment on how they chose the ends of the spectrum, I originally assumed that they found a list of best movies from a Internet article (like a best movies from the 2000s type) or a ratings book for The older ones. I am very thankful for you guys taking the time to check everything.

Jurassic Park AND Jurassic World both made the list

I am kind of surprised on the lack of big 70s movies (when I drafted this last night i was thinking that casino royale would be the only possible 70s movie

there's at least nine 70s movies on the list; Casino Royale is not one of them

as I assume the The Chocolate Factory movie was the one from the 2000s, I did not even know they made one in the 70s) (which in the way proves how niche the movie currently is),

wait what

the original 70's Willy Wonka is absolutely not a niche movie, it is a classic on the level of The Wizard of Oz and you need to watch it as soon as possible

Interesting that they had Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) to represent the far end of "spanning fifty years" from when the episode was taped, yet the most recent movies on that list were 2018's A Quiet Place and Bohemian Rhapsody.

the other thing that strikes is is the lack of Disney-produced movies

the only two that jump out at me are Star Wars (which was Fox at the time) and the first Avengers (which was in the process of being bought by Paramount & opens with Paramount logo)

maybe they didn't want to give free advertising to any movies likely to show up on ABC

Uh, Casino Royale was made in 1967.

as I assume the The Chocolate Factory movie was the one from the 2000s, I did not even know they made one in the 70s) (which in the way proves how niche the movie currently is)

I cannot overstate how ridiculous a viewpoint this is.  It's like coming on here and saying you've never heard of Plinko.
