I've seen some dubious sources claim that Ellen Winters was fired from WTYHK, due to giving questionable advice on parenting. However, I have not seen one reputable source (i.e. a newspaper article) to confirm it.

As far as original game shows go, Shop 'Til You Drop and Shopping Spree were the best. Though I would give an honorable mention of best interactive game to Trivial Pursuit.

I've looked before and I've found ZERO information on Ellen C. Winters. You'd think something would be written about her somewhere if she was a true therapist. Her replacement, Marilyn Kagan, has all kinds of information about herself online.

For what it's worth, I thought Ellen Winters was horrible.

Marilyn Kagan is a long-time social worker. That's what she was when they put her on Wait til You Have Kids. She got her psychotherapist certificate long after the show had been canned. She also had the benefit of being in television much of her life and was better fit for television. Kagan had been in 1996, doing a talk show with KCAL 9 in LA. Whereas Mrs. Winters, whose credentials, and I honestly wonder if her name, are questionable to being legit. She also didn't come off as experienced on television.

Of note, Tom Parks was not the network's first choice. There was negotiations to have Vicki Lawrence host the show.

I kind of remember in my area The All-New Let's Make a Deal airing at 1:00 in the original lineup for a while, as I recall watching that instead of Talkabout on USA during the months in question, then switching to the latter network for Sale of the Century at 1:30.  Perhaps it varied from cable company to cable company.  Either way, this was a pretty solid block for its time.

The summer of 1993 was an especially memorable time with the block, since I would usually flip over to USA after Deal, though I sometimes would watch Sale instead of Deal. I usually wouldn't catch the Cross-Wits '86 though since the second half of you know what was on CBS. The 1994-95 Kids' Lineup was also a favorite of mine, especially Maze and That's My Dog, which I'd imagine Bob Barker could have done a great job hosting. Overall, FAM had more originals compared to USA, but the less said about Boggle/Jumble/Shuffle, the better.

Indeed, those three, though well intended, just couldn't quite stand out, with the interactive portions of them not really helping matters either.  Trivial Pursuit at least benefited from its general knowledge format, and while the rampant amount of filler material needed during the hour-long format after the three finalists had been chosen definitely slowed the game down--it felt much better when reduced to a standard half hour length--it was still easy enough to play along with.
