Georgia swats Vanderbilt 55-0 and now has a bye this upcoming week. The World's Largest Cocktail Party in Jacksonville follows the week after. No. 2 Ohio State had a bye this week.

Alabama drops to #6 in the latest rankings which puts them out of the playoff picture for the time being. Spots 1 through 5 are taken by Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee and Clemson.

Today's San Jose State/New Mexico State game has been postponed after SJS running back Camden McWright was struck by a school bus while riding a scooter and killed. Police reports say he drove in the path of the bus after running a red light. McWright was 18.

No changes to the Top Six within Week 8 poll.  UCLA and Ole Miss losing their undefeated bid led to their fall outside the Top 10 of the AP Poll (12th and 15th, respectively).  In terms of SEC teams outside of the Top 15, LSU and South Carolina enter the rankings, with the former reappearing on the poll inside the Top 20.  Kentucky is the only team outside of the top teams to remain put from their 19th spot.

I haven't seen or heard of a preview show for the College Football Playoff Rankings Show, which would be on Tuesday.  However, the first rankings for the CFB Playoff is slated to released one week from Tuesday

Early line on Georgia-Florida this Saturday (3:30 PM ET, CBS) has the Dogs giving 22 with an O/U of 56. Gut feeling (and as we know has been wrong many times) says the easy payday is taking the over. The 22 seems like yummy candy but it's burned me before so I won't call that.

#2 Ohio State trailed #13 Penn State for a time but eventually took advantage of Penn State miscues for a 44-31 win (Nittany Lions covered, for what that's worth).

Georgia stays on top of the top 25 two nights ahead of the first playoff rankings. Tennessee, Ohio State, Michigan and Clemson round out the first five spots.

It should be noted that the Top 5, while identical in both the AP Poll & Coaches Poll, that Tennessee and Ohio State are tied for second place (in the AP Poll)

Auburn has fired HC Harsin

All I can say is that's it's the business of the sport.  Can't beat Alabama, lost to Penn State, and the rest of the West is getting better (Ole Miss, LSU, plus Arkansas & Texas A&M).  That's just the West.  The East with Tennessee and Georgia (plus Kentucky) are another threat.  No need to procrastinate here.

Edited to add the fact that the Auburn Tigers are now paying for two people to do nothing for them.  They have work to do in order to get the successor right this time

Line on Georgia-Tennessee (3:30 PM ET, CBS) opened at 13-1/2 in Georgia's favor; it is now down to 9. Ohio State is expected to mop the floor with Northwestern (line is 38; 12 Noon ET, ABC).

So the rankings are expected to be released in just over an hour from now.  In most of the past years, the top team was sorta obvious (usually Alabama).  IMO, this year is all but obvious, but will be super obvious next week.  Even if Ohio State pounds the hell out of Northwestern + Georgia/Tennessee featured in a very sloppy game, I don't think the Buckeyes can jump to the Top spot.  The previous sentence would actually be their best shot, unless they are already in the Top 2 heading into Saturday.

Last Week was the preview show.  I was about to post those, but I'd rather link to them.  Except it might be ancient history.  To summarize, Kirk & Rece had the same top 4 of OSU, Tennessee, Georgia, and Michigan while flipping with 5 & 6 (Herbie had Bama & Clemson, Davis had it flipped).  Joey G & Pollack had the same 3 & 6 (Tennessee & TCU, respectively).  Both left out Alabama from the Top 6; Joey had OSU & Georgia and Clemson & Michigan as 1&2, 4&5, David had those flipped.

Not on the ESPN CFBP show but on the Herd, top CFB analyst Joel Klatt had the same Top 6 as Herbie, while adding TCU, Oregon, Oklahoma State, and Utah as 7-10.

Oklahoma State's placement will be revealed much, much earlier, ahead of the Top 10 they're going to be excluded from.  This is assuming that the reveal is the same as 2021's reveal.  I don't think Utah cracks the Top 10.  If they don't they shouldn't be too far from it.

I could be typical & go with the Bulldogs in the top spot, but I'll be different & put Tennessee instead.  Fortunately, instead of yours truly choosing the Final 4, the bracket will be determined by the committee (as has been the custom for nearly a decade).  If I had to post a list, I'll go with the following:

Top Four:
Tennessee
Georgia
Ohio State
Michigan

First Out (5-6):
Clemson
TCU

Next Level (7-10 & 11-12):
Alabama
Oregon
UCLA
Ole Miss
USC
LSU

Barring a different reveal, they'll start with 21-25, then go to 16-20 & 11-15.  After that comes 7-10 in reverse.  Then the Top 6 reveal is random, which usually the likelier spot before what may be a surprise

Tennessee is indeed Number 1.  First time in the CFB Playoff Era.  Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan, and Alabama follow

Georgia stakes their claim to no. 1 in the CFP rankings with a 27-13 win over Tennessee. Stetson Bennett IV threw for 257 and 2 TDs, never sacked and never turned the ball over (came close at least once). Tennessee's Hendon Hooker threw for 195 and a TD, 1 INT and was sacked six times.

Elsewhere, Ohio State had to claw their way to defeat Notthwestern 21-7 after being tied with them at halftime (line was 37-1/2).

Well, Ohio State pretty much made things easy for the committee in terms of whether to move up the Buckeyes or to flip Georgia & Tennessee.  Of course the latter probably will not land in the 3rd spot over Michigan, but since the Wolverines were idle, it's possible.  Meanwhile, not sure what reasoning the committee would give if they messed with TCU again

LSU beats heavily favored Alabama in overtime 32-31 to likely knock the Crimson Tide out of the Playoff picture.

I'm going to guess the Playoff rankings coming up will be 1 Georgia, 2 Ohio State, 3 Michigan, 4 TCU.
