2022 MLB season: Postseason Time
« on: September 23, 2022, 11:45:11 PM »
I don’t see an 2022 MLB season thread here, so I’m making one just to proclaim that 1573513544540332044[/tweet]?s=46&t=zMMO4zQVdte-lWJsBNDung]Albert Pujols is one of the greatest players to ever step on a baseball diamond.

Congratulations to Albert Pujols on joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, and Babe Ruth in becoming only the 4th member of the 700 club.

See you in Cooperstown Albert. Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera have been the best hitters of the 21st century. Pujols is probably the 2nd best player in Cardinals franchise history behind Stan Musial and Miguel Cabrera is probably the 2nd best player in Tigers history behind Ty Cobb.

Since my Diamondbacks aren't going to the postseason I'm rooting for St. Louis to win the whole thing and give Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, and Adam Wainwright get 3rd rings and ride off into the sunset as winners.

(Let's anybody but those damn Dodgers win the World Series.)
Adjustments that should be made to pricing games to make them fairer: Secret X: Add a 3rd SP so that perfect pricing ensures a win. 1/2 Off: Add a 4th set of SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Master Key: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win. Rat Race: Add 2 more SPs so that perfect pricing ensures a win.

The following pricing games should be retired because there's no way or no easy way to make them fair: Spelling Bee, Plinko, Punch a Bunch, Pass the Buck, Let em Roll, 3 Strikes.

The following retired pricing games should be revived: $uper $aver, Give or Keep, Buy or Sell, Hurdles, Bump, Penny Ante, Credit Card, On the Spot, Split Decision, Add em Up, Walk of Fame, Barker's Markers, Magic Number.

Braves rookie phenom Spencer Strider will sit out the rest of regular season with an oblique strain. He set a record for the quickest in reaching 200 strikeouts, doing so in 130 innings pitched.

Maris' son had major props for Judge, saying he did it the right way.

As of 2022 / right now, he has.  It does sting a little with the extended aftermath of what took place with McGwire and 1998

It's official.  Aaron Judge is the new, outright, AL HR leader.  Felt like a home game with that reception in Texas!

He certainly earned it.  Now it's quite possible Josh Gibson may still have the actual single season--and career--home run record as it is, but with official Negro League records being unfortunately incomplete at present, we may never know for sure.

In the American League postseason brackets, Toronto will host Seattle in the wild card series starting Friday.  This means Tampa Bay will play Cleveland in the other series

Having clinched the NL East, Atlanta will chill after today's finale and play the St. Louis/Philadelphia winner in the DS.

All six playoff spots for both teams are set. The Wild Card Series matches begin two days from today, expanded from the one-game playoff from 2012-2019 and 2021. Each is best of 3 with the home team hosting all three games.

AL:
Tampa Bay (6) Vs. Cleveland (3); winner plays NY Yankees (2) in the DS
Seattle (5) Vs. Toronto (4); winner plays Houston (1) in the DS

NL:
Philadelphia (6) Vs. St Louis (3); winner plays Atlanta (2) in the DS
San Diego (5) Vs. NY Mets (4); winner plays LA Dodgers (1) in the DS

The 2-2-1 home field for the Division Series and the 2-3-2 for the League Championship Series and the World Series are unchanged.

As of this season, there are no more tiebreaker games. All ties are now decided on statistics. Philadelphia and Milwaukee could still theoretically finish with the same record, but Milwaukee has already been eliminated because they lost the head-to-head against Philadelphia.

Wild Card picks: Cleveland in 3, Toronto in 2, Philadelphia in 3 and San Diego in 3.

Nothing against Pujols, but unless a new thread needs to be started, it looks like the title to this thread needs updated (maybe to MLB 2022 Postseason).

One more thing as it relates to the regular season.  Now that Aaron Judge has reached 62, there's no need for him to play in today's game as he is not in the lineup.  While it looked like the reason to play this past week was solely to get to the new AL HR mark, the Triple Crown was in play.  It was doubtful by this time yesterday, that would have been a nice bonus had he got there
