Alright, everyone, you’ve heard of NCFC games, but get ready for … car-for-a-non-car games?!

I definitely don’t hate it, though I definitely scratched my head once Lucky Seven was revealed. This appears to be the first time in the game’s 49-year history in which it hasn’t been played for a car, and the first time in almost 30 years that it’s been played for a prize worth less than $10,000.

Also, apart from Golden Road being played for trailers, I genuinely cannot think of any car games that weren’t played for a car.

Playing car games for a (relatively nice) boat was a thing that occasionally happened through the 80's.

Brad Francini's old site had a few pics of those games, including Money Game played for a boat with special boat graphics.

Awesome Halloween special, and great show in general!  While I initially thought/figured that they could've played Lucky Seven for the Volkswagen Tiguan and Push Over for the boat, it was neat seeing that for the former.  First 4-digit playing since the debut of the Times font.  Very friendly setup of course.

In yet another "in the moment" take, I said Roceo's Money Game playing was worse than the last one.  It wasn't as bad but it's unfortunate when someone picks a number that, if you thought really hard, you'd think twice before choosing something else.  Not an easy price though.

We'll see how George's voice holds up going forward.  Rather amazing he stayed in character throughout the entire show!

Finally, Golden Road had a cabin cruiser in 18 playings, although the practice ended in 2008.

Nonetheless to all the above stats, it's still bizarre to see it today. I get they had to do a L7 type of reveal due to Tuggs, but did they really have to play L7 just because of that? Why not H-L with a classic pushed out game reveal? It was also, in principle, unfair for the contestant to have to price a phone on top of the boat.

Finally, we get two Bayliners in SCs a week, but couldn't offer it in a PG today? The budget kind of mocks that...

I love L7 being played for a very nice four digit prize.

L7 for a car with the first digit given isn't so easy and especially moreso now. Cars seem to be so variable in price anymore, especially with supply shortages, it seems very hard to nail down that second number and give the contestant a fighting chance to win on the harder third, fourth, and fifth numbers.

One of the things about watching the Barker era that has stood out to me is how simple it was to tie the first digit of the car to a year and the type of the car/options on the car because it could only be so many things and was usually fairly obvious. The type of car then usually directed where the second number would fall, so it caused the third and fourth numbers to decide if the game was to be won or lost.

Tl;dr: four digit L7 gives the contestant a much better chance to win because you're really only stumped on two numbers instead of three. First digit given away for cars made the game harder, and that's especially true in 2022.

Conclusion: I hope this is a change that stays. I LOVED it.

We also had something rarer than 4-digit L7 , not a single TV was offered anywhere in the show today.

In retrospect, they shouldn't have placed the microphone hook over the dominant hand of the host.

I suppose that if an LED HDTV is capable of rendering the color brown (which it had better be), I shouldn't have been surprised that they were able to make the audience pods, Contestants' Row borders, and home base wall brown. But I've never seen LEDs used to turn a set brown, so that was a fun change of pace.

When they were lighting our news studio, I learned there are different types of LED strips: RGB, RGBW, RGBA, and RGBWA...red, green, blue, white, and amber. With the amber color, you can recreate yellows, oranges, and browns better. But I agree, that was a nice brown! Very 70s TNPiR.  :-)

Lucky $even was one of the coolest things the show has ever done.  I'm not even sure what had me geeking out the most -- the boat, the Tugboat pulling the boat, or an honest to God 4-digit car game in 2022.  It's been almost half an hour since I finished watching the fifth game, and I'm still dumbfounded.

Also, apart from Golden Road being played for trailers, I genuinely cannot think of any car games that weren’t played for a car.

They actually used to do this with Money Game on occasion back in the '80s and '90s...and just like today, it didn't count as a car game on those episodes.

They also still have the graphics for Money Game for a boat as it once appeared during an April Fools show.

Fun fact:  Those actually aren't Money Game's regular boat graphics.  They were made specifically for that episode.

That was actually a cool presentation for a 4-digit Lucky $even! I never would've seen that coming, nor have I ever seen it on live TV at all, but I liked it!

And we didn't have to worry as much about a Push Over car playing in which someone stops at the first price...unless they thought it was a luxury car.
