Not enough viewers are going to care or get the studio location to build a special around that. Yes they use the name in the intro, but thatís not the same as viewers being interested in a building. The show moves; they keep the line in the intro or they donít. They make a little mention of a new layout if there is one or they donít. And then it goes on with the show. Studios can be anywhere; theyíre just buildings.

This must be a relief for Drew.
First, his inability to fill 300 seats at Studio 33 was mercifully masked by covid and the Pod people.  Now that that excuse has become obsolete his continued inability to fill the house will be masked by some Wheel of Fortune type teeny, tiny bleacher arrangement.
The show will become more stilted and unwatchable. TPIR was drained of all spontaneity long ago.

can we stop making every thread a "we hate drew" thread at this point?

there's also the whole shrinking of show-time to make room for more ads

Do you think a bunch of games get retired this season. Thats considering if they do not want to move all of the sets and podiums over to the new studio when the show is done taping for the seaso

I would guess not, given that all the games survived COVID, and I would think they'd rather not rebalance the rotation, but who knows?

What are the ratings now compared to Bob's last few seasons?

"The sign of a good game, is when you don't have to explain it every day. The key is not simplicity, but apparent simplicity. Password looks like any idiot could have made it up, but we have 14 of our people working on that show. There is a great complexity behind the screen. It requires great work to keep it simple."

Is there any reason why they couldn't build new sets and podiums to replace any they don't want to move, instead of having to retire a game?
Fun fact: Evelyn Wong, the 5th person to be called on the first show (9/4/72), was actually the very first contestant to directly be called to come on down!  The original first four (Sandy Flornor, Paul Levine, Connie Donnel, Myra Carter) were individually told to stand up, and then, as a group, were invited to come on down.

Cost? It can't be cheap to rebuild pricing game sets. I read a long time ago that building the Rat Race prop took six figures. They'd be better off sending the game off to the graveyard.

Personally, I highly doubt any game gets axed. Above all else, once the move is complete, the people in charge still have a show to produce, preferably the same show with the same games. Permanently thinning out the game rotation to solve a temporary problem, if it can even be called a problem, just doesn't seem plausible.

I'm interested in what design changes we might see in a new studio as compared to the limitations of studio 33. For example, if you have ever been to studio 33 you know that door is perpendicular to the audience because of space. Door 1 is rarely used during the show because of the lack of space behind it and the awkward sightlines beyond the turntable. Home base needs to be rotated through the show and has its own space issues behind it, and the design needs to fit into that space.
What could be done differently and improved in a new space...and what new challenges may exist?
And, how do you keep the look of Price distinct from LMAD?

Or will CBS do a primetime special reflecting on all the years at Television City like they did for its 50th anniversary?

I feel like there aren't enough prominent CBS productions at TVC now to justify such a thing. After all, TVC was sold by CBS a few years ago so that would've been the more relevant time to do a farewell to what could arguably be their most famous studios. We also need to remember that TVC isn't going away. It's being renovated and will be open for productions once again, just not with its current long-time residents.

The special CBS produced in 2002 hosted by Carol Burnett was all about the studio and highlighted all programs produced at Television City, not just the ones that aired on CBS.

That was fantastic! Thanks for posting.

Would have been anathema to suggest in '02 that it would eventually be sold off, but the decline in soaps and complete collapse of the variety show model meant the writing was on the wall.

The same two soaps that were taping at TVC are still taping there now. The two that were cancelled were the ones taping in NYC. Many of the shows that were taping there in 2002 when the special was produced are still there now.

Itís also two decades later, and things change over time. Way fewer people watch those soaps, for example. And fewer still actually know or care what building they tape in. Variety specials are even further in timeís rear-view mirror. Such is the nature of life.
