Drew's 17th Year
« on: September 23, 2023, 11:23:19 AM »
I cannot believe Monday is the beginning of Drew's 17th year as host! Who knew when he was doing double duty for ABC with The Drew Carey Show and hosting Whose Line that he'd wind up hosting television's longest running daytime game show? Drew is a breath of fresh air for this generation of Price fans. I'm looking forward to this season and what it has in store including the Price Is Right At Night specials!

From what I could gather, quite a few people thought he'd last maybe one or two years. Needless to say, they were wrong.

Wow! It sure doesn't seem like 17 years.

That's because it hasn't been.

Yeah, 16th year, isn't it.

At this point, assuming good health and Daytime TV's continued profitability and all, I figure 20 is all but a lock, 25 isn't out of the realm of possibility.

My mistake.

You weren't mistaken.  This is Drew's 17th year.  The issue is saying that it's been 17 years since he took over -- that won't be true until next year.

I believe "17 seasons" would be a more accurate term than "17 years".

Technically, it'd be the same thing.

It's the START of the 17th season. So it hasn't been 17 seasons, yet. It'll be 17 seasons next fall when he's STARTING his 18th year.

In some ways, it's still hard to believe it's been 16 years. Or seasons.  :oldlol:

I know! It's hard for me to wrap my mind sometimes around the fact that I've grown up with and have watched him host this one particular show since I was 12!

By the same token, when someone has a birthday at a certain age, you would say that such a person is starting the next year on that birthday (like with Joey King turning 24 on July 30; she would have started her 25th year on that date, and the next year on that date, she will be starting her 26th year).

Exactly...but I know of no one who says someone celebrating their 25th birthday is starting their 26th year. You'd say Happy 25th birthday!

This post began with someone saying Drew was starting his 17th year, which is correct, since he'd completed 16 seasons as host.

That's very true-- I went way off-topic there, and should have indicated as such; good catch.

that is because a lot of the recent time was covid. I think because of that everyone has lost their perception of time including me.

When did Adam Sandlers co executive producer disappear from the credits and go to a person named Darren?

Did he give up his co executive producer responsibilities to concentrate on directing?

I just noticed this during the season 52 premiere

I usually don’t watch the credits but noticed it on the premiere
