This particular episode, from May 10, 1963 has been picked out as contestant number 4 is Pat DeBartolo. Last year, her daughter, Gina Yanovitch was on a message board elsewhere asking if she knew how to obtain a copy of this episode so she can present it to her mom for her 70th birthday last October. I stepped up as I have said episode on tape (since transferred to DVD), and I went about procuring it for Gina and her mom, who hasn't seen the episode since her initial appearance (it was same-day live on the east coast and tape-delayed elsewhere). To wit, following Don Pardo's usual opening...

Bill comes out to applause and announces that the sweepstakes winner will be announced later. Tonight's bargain hunters:

* - Richard Darling is the returning champion. An insurance investigator from Stanford CT, he returns with $10,118 in winnings.

* - Velma Davis, a housewife from Chicopee Falls MA.

* - John Primo is a tanker captain from Staten Island.

* - Pat DeBartolo, a secretary from Houston.

First item up for bids: A game room. It consists of a shuffle bowling game from Capitol Projector, a 5'x9' ping pong table from FAO Schwartz, a folding game table from A. Brandt, and a billiard table from Brunswick, measuring 4.5'x9'.

Mr. Agner opens and is asked to start with at least $1000; minimums are $100:

For his barbecue, he wins 100 cans of Mother Dennis whole chickens, 100 cans of Hafnia hams, 5,000 Jiffy flash-frozen beefsteaks, and a 10-ft. long hot dog from Hebrew National. (Captain Primo cracked "It's a heckuva thing to offer an Irishman on a Friday night!")

The winner of the Mercury station wagon, Mercury Comet and Arpege perfume by Lanvin is announced. The price: $6622.90. The cards:

The winner is Lester Mays (his was the first drawn with the correct price). He receives the cars and the perfume and is flown to New York to be a contestant on the next week's show. The other four people receive a 23-in. Admiral black-and-white console TV.

Next item, and Bill's modeling it this time: emerald and gold cufflinks by Marin Jewelers. Each is emerald set into a concave oval setting of 18k gold. They each weigh 2.79 karats and can be used as earrings for the lady of the house.

Captain Primo starts and is asked to open at least with $750; minimums are $100:

Actual retail price: $2350, with Mrs. Davis the winner, and she hit the bonus bell. When Mrs. Davis wears the emeralds as earrings, she'll receive an evening gown to go with it. When her husband wears the emeralds as cufflinks, he'll receive a tuxedo to go with it. Together, the Davises will return to the show next week with their bonus prize: a vibraphone from Jenko Music. Asked what her and her husband's favorite song was, she said "Always." On the next show, the Davises will play a duet of "Always" on their vibraphone. Mrs. Davis and her husband will alternate playing each note of the song and they will receive $10 for every note they get right in sixty seconds. Tempo will not be a factor.

Final item: A 21-ft. powerboat by Glaspar Marine, made of fiberglass with a canvas top, cabinet with formica top, powered by a 140-hp Merco-cruise engine. It's carried on a Holtzclaw trailer with a 3000-lb. weight capacity.
