Question about August 17th Taping
« on: August 05, 2007, 10:07:45 AM »
Hi everyone,
I hope I'm in the right forum for this.  I have tickets for the 8/17 taping (1:15 show).  What time do you think I should arrive to wait in line?  I imagine I'd need to get there early but do you think I'll need to camp out all night as people were doing during Bob's final months?  As I am not from California, I'd appreciate any help you can give me - I really want to be able to get into the show!
Thanks.

This is tricky.  My guess is that if you got in line at 4 or 5 you will probably be OK.  I'm not sure how many non-TPIR-junkies are aware that tapings will be taking place then, so I doubt you will have the same crush.  I wonder what others think.

I don't know... I think for the first few weeks or so, people are going to be really interested to see Drew. It'll be nothing like the madness I experienced firsthand in Bob's final weeks, but if you ask me, I think the line will still form a little earlier than that for the first few weeks. Just my opinion, though.

And if heels goes out there, we might hear rich say jorday"i can't beat PFA in the css"honan, come on down.  It will take some time getting used to seeing someone else host the show.  No one will ever replace bob.

I find it interesting that tickets for the August shows will be available at the ticket booth on the day of the taping - I think it means one of two things - either they don't expect the crowds to be nearly as bad as Bob's last few shows and they don't expect to fill up the audience, or that the announcement for the August tapings is too close to the tape date that they can't mail out all of the ticket requests in time.

However, since every tape day will have 2 shows - I think the lines will be similar to double tape Mondays before Bob announced his retirement.

Haha... funny. But I'm not going then, unfortunately. I definitely plan to go again soon, though. I'd love to go by the end of the year, but it'll probably be more like early next year.

Thanks guys-
I think I'm going to plan on arriving around midnight - just to be on the safe side.  I don't want to risk traveling all the way there and not be able to get in.  I should pretty much be guaranteed a seat if I get there that early, right?  Anybody have any insider tips or things I should know before I go?
Thanks.

As much as I love the show, I honestly don't think I will go to any tapings.  Not having barker is just not the same anymore.  I do wish carey the best of luck with the show.  Sorry to sound so negative, not trying to, just my opinion.  I will still watch the show all the time and plan on being in chat when I am not working at walmart. Hopefully my css will be better this year that last.

Hmmmm....we both have something in common. :-D

(My target times for going are December of this year and March '08.)

Seriously, though.....I'm holding off for a bit because I'd like to know what the lines are like before I go, so I know what to prepare for. ;-)

Have fun and be safe to all those going! :-)

I think I can go ahead and reveal this now:

I've discussed with Searcy that I have an interest in flying out to L.A. for one or more of the same March '08 tapings that he would attend.  This would be my first trip to TBBS33 since 1999.
Well, this week was supposed to be a return to normalcy, but that's clearly not allowed.  Since you feel there is no need for this week's FPG to continue, I feel there is no need to continue as an FPG host or a G-R.net member.  Since most people are so desperate to push me out of here, why delay it?  I would have preferred that everybody publicly admitted it rather than string me along for the last two days, but it is what it is.  I am hereby resigning as FPG host and moderator, effective immediately.  whammy007 is the new permanent host.  No R-rated rant or airing of grievances from me.  Just a polite "goodbye for good".

It'd be sweet to meet you two there, but I'm not liking the sound of a March trip, and you can guess why. Any other month, though... I'm open.

Well, Heels, if I can get the money saved up, I would like to go in December (saves me on packing...just pack pants and long sleeve shirts....instead of both long sleeve and short sleeve shirts when I went in March, because I had no idea what the weather was like out there having never been outside the southeast US in my life  ).

I've been talking with Armadillo about it too (I promised him that he gets 1st dibs when I plan another carpool-like trip where we'd split room/shuttle costs equally -- because he was such a cool friend to be with back in March).  We're talking about a trip to Vegas before going to LA.

The way I got things planned is that me and whoever else wants to tag along for leg 1 would meet up in Vegas, and get a shuttle (or taxi -- some say that's cheaper) to our hopefully-be-a hotel/casino.  We'd gamble there, leave the next morning, board a morning flight to LA and get there and to the hotel around or maybe about an hour after check in time.

Heels, I know you're not 21, so, unless you can find something to occupy your time, you wouldn't have much fun on that part.  Seriously....if someone can't join for the Vegas leg for any reason but can join me and whoever else goes with me to Vegas for the LA leg of the trip, I'd love to have ya. :-)

This is kinda an open call for anyone who wants to join in to share a room and shuttle and split the costs equally (like Armadillo and I did back in March, where we got 1 room (with 2 beds) and split the shuttle and room costs 50/50).  I do have a few requirements, though, if ya wanna tag along....you gotta be well known around here (or other well known game show sites), I gotta be able to trust ya, and ya gotta be a good person (no trouble makers, membership(s) be in good standing, etc.).

Now....if I'm unable to go in December, as I said previously, March '08 is another target time...although I could have a change of heart and go earlier or later.  I'm just trying to avoid peak times for Vegas (and try to for LA).

Why not?  One of my favorite parts of my trip last March was sitting in the hotel room before getting in line, watching Georgetown's wonderful comeback to knock out N...err, nevermind.
