Here's another old European TPiR clip!
« on: November 15, 2007, 06:27:14 PM »
I'm not sure if anyone's already posted the clip, but this time, here's another European TPiR clip-- it's from Portugal's O Preco Certo, from the Nicolau Breyner era. Included are an IUFB, a playing of Plinko (with a funny moment! ;-)), a Showcase Showdown, and a Showcase worth about 4.5 million escudos (€22,000/US$33,000).

NOTE: Strangely, the showcase winner is only allowed one prize to keep from the showcase, based on my translation on what the host and contestant said. Don't know why. ;-)

Did you take into the fact the exchange rate of the escudos for the time?

Very interesting.  I didn't understand a word!  :D

It was kind of odd, given that, to hear essentially the same music as the US version.

And thankfully their 3M- sponsored Wheel didn't look all cheap and nasty like the UK Sky version -- though that beeping was weird.  I wonder what you got for landing on the Scotch Brite?

All I can think is...What a piece of crap version. Yes, the British Sky version was crappy because the production levels were pretty low, and prize values were low, but I have never seen such an unenthusiastic crowd on ANY version of the show. It's odd to hear the Ameriocan theme on a boring, lifeless piece of crap, but there it is. I have now seen everything, and it is not all good. ;-) Interesting to watch, though.

I don't like it. The crowd is very unenthusiastic, and it has a cheap looking Plinko board. Though it is nice that they used some American Music tracks, and the Big Wheel they used was okay.

Then again, all Euro boards in Plinko! are El Cheapo.

Weird. The main theme should not be used as a prize cue.

the solution was 1,008,000  (worth $831.24 "then", or $744.44 "now")

Where's the enthusiasm?  Watching that first minute or so felt like I was watching ice melt.  :-D

I'm also used to all the enthusiasm when a game, such as Plinko! is revealed. They show the game and there's literally no reaction by the audience. Plus, using the US TPiR intro for EVERYTHING makes it tiring and feels overly repetitive. That music played during their 'Plinko!' just doesn't fit at all, that's music for sitting around at a pool or a banquet hall.  :-P

With the Showcase Showdown wheel, with a strong spin, I'm sure it would go on for a minute. Plus, there's no reaction by the peanut gallery (apart from the near 'Scotch Brite win) or talking other than when the host announces the price and how the person did. It's amazing the audience clapped when the second SCS contestant lost.

Finally, some audience reaction during the Showcase Showdown.

I personally have to say that I find it to be boring and the set/games look too cheap. There's also too many advertisements around the set and games.

I started to watch the clip, and then...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzz.

Does that Plinko board not have the protective glass on it that ours does?

People are tired of the f**kery and drama, but if we'd actually talk to each other sometimes instead of a whole bunch of private conversations with other people, it'd go a long way to perhaps fixing the problems most seem to see in the site.

Their Plinko just doesn't have the 'suspense' our's does.

First of all, we get the sound and the protective board. Secondly, their puck has no weight to it so it just plops right down through the levels with great speed. Their camera view doesn't show what price the contestant could get until the last second. Lastly, their board is too wide to allow for any drastic changes.
