"Human Tetris" coming to the USA
« on: February 22, 2008, 07:21:48 PM »
FremantleMedia, producers of a certain game show that is the basis for these forums as well as American Idol, has announced that an American version of a Fuji TV game show in Japan that involves what is seen on YouTube as "Human Tetris".  The show, called "Hole In The Wall" involves contestai in spandex jumpsuits and wearing helmets shaping themselves to meet oncoming obstacles with human sized walls racing toward them and failing to do so forces them into a pool of water.

The show will air on FOX, citing that they will call it "family friendly".  For FOX, that's an oxymoron, save for Idol.

The "Human Tetris" has been frequently featured on Ellen, so it's pretty popular I think.

I LOVED that clip when I found it.  So much so it's on my favorites.

But, would it last?  Glad to see we are getting a REAL gameshow...not a word game, or millionaire style show.

Judging from the popularity on YouTube, this should be fun...

Human Tetris is hilarious.   I wonder how similar it will be to the show clipped on U2B.
Let's all take a deep breath.
Wise words.

Do you think it's enough to base a whole show off of? I guess if you go to commercial while the wall is moving, you can pad it out to an hour. On the other hand, it'd make a great segment of a show.

Of course, they do it a bit different in Italy...maybe FOX was thinking of this when they heard about it:

My roommate brought a clip of Human Tetris up and we were cracking up over the impossible things that they had the contestants doing. U.S. audiences should love this.

From what I understand, the Japanese "Hole in the Wall" isn't a show entirely by itself - its part of a variety show. In fact, one of the clips on YouTube has a "20th Anniversary" set, and I'm pretty sure "Hole in the Wall" hasn't been on for 20 years.

Well then, what are they going to do here?

Amen! This format doesn't lend itself well to that, anyway.

The show that it came from BTW is called "Tunnels no Minasan no Okage Des[hit]a".  The show is hosted by a comedy team called Tunnels, and the latter wording (according to Yahoo! Answers) means "Thanks you."  Hence, "Tunnels Thanks You."

EDIT: I guess the ol' profanity filter doesn't know Japanese, so the bracketing of three letters.
