$1,000,000 Spectacular Ratings
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:25:11 PM »
The obligatory news on the MDS ratings...
http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-ratings-022208,0,5410664.story

And the relevant bit...
Quote
At 8 p.m., CBS started the night with the highest-rated show of the night, a primetime edition of "Price Is Right," 5.9/10, easily beating NBC's game show "1 vs. 100," 4.7/8. A repeat of "Bones" performed solidly for FOX, 4.6/8, while The CW gave over its evening to "Friday Night Smackdown." ABC languished in last place with a "Grey's Anatomy" repeat.

Good show, good show.

To be fair...Grey's Anatomy is still in repeats (even though the writer's strike is over, it will be a while before new episodes of many scripted shows become available.) If this were a first-run episode, I'm certain it would have performed better.  Of course, this is a moot point, since ABC would not be airing a first-run episode of that program on Friday nights anyway.  (And personally, I gave up on Grey's after watching this year's season premiere.)

As a side note, I've seen the local numbers for the market where I live (Phoenix).  Here, the MDS was also #1 in its time period (7p-8p) - although the rating and share were both lower than they were nationally, and the margin of victory over the #2 program was much narrower. The ranking for the other networks (in just the 7p-8p time period) were as follows: Fox, CW, NBC, and ABC.  (This is representative only of live viewing - unlike the national numbers, it doesn't include any DVR/TiVo viewing.)

At least, Price won over Friday Night Smackdown! This a good laugh, Drew Carey, Rich Fields and with Adam "Million Dollar Winner" wins in a triple threat match over Big Show, Rey Mysterio, and the Undertaker along with the rest of the Smackdown Superstars!!!

TPiR's ratings don't surprise me in the least. I didn't expect it to be the #1 show of the night, but I guess when you still have most shows affected by the strike (as in no new eps yet) and what is probably the most popular game show on TV, those ratings would come natural!

Well, honestly, I don't think it comes as much of a surprise. As far as I remember, every modern-day "Price is Right" primetime special has won the time slot (and possibly the night) for CBS...even the re-run of the 30th anniversary special that aired in July 2002.

doesn't surprise me at all, and it's great to see tpir in primetime,  gives cbs some great leverage over anything the other networks throw at it.  as price going against wwf/e should be a landslide.(though wwf is popular now much like it was in the mid 90s with hakushi, mabel, diesel, barry horowitz, and bret hart)  go TPIR!!!!!!

That's primarily due to March Madness.  ACC markets didn't have it and I think SEC markets didn't have it either.   Basically, anything with Raycom may or may not have been CBS.  I'm surprised the drop-off wasn't more.

Just depended on the station.  I am in the SEC market, middle Georgia, and we had the special.

10 million turned in for the skunko/million dollar win combo.  Figures.

Maybe that's why the Lord decided to mess with one of these tournaments by dropping a tornado onto the stadium.  That, and the fact that the Florida Gators had been eliminated the day before.  :D

If that had happened in the ACC, they the final would have been Florida State/Boston College....in Charlotte!

I don't mind a preemption, but when you do it, please, WFMY, play the special when you say you're gonna do it.  I taped it and got what appeared to be Ghost Whisperer.
